Job description
Role Purpose
To lead all BIM activities related to MEP systems for major building and infrastructure projects. Responsible for managing BIM workflows, developing coordinated 3D/4D models, supervising BIM teams, and ensuring accurate preparation of composite MEP shop drawings, clash detection, and full MEP‑to‑civil/architectural integration. The role ensures digital engineering excellence throughout design, construction, and installation phases.
Key Responsibilities
1. BIM Management & Model Development
- Develop, manage, and update MEP BIM models at LOD 300–LOD 500 according to project BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
- Oversee preparation of composite shop drawings integrating Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Firefighting, and ELV systems.
- Ensure all models follow BIM standards, naming conventions, file structures, and coordination protocols.
- Manage model federation and ensure accurate coordination with structural and architectural models.
2. MEP Technical Coordination
- Lead multi‑discipline coordination of HVAC, CHW, plumbing, drainage, firefighting, medical gases (if applicable), LV/MV electrical systems, cable routing, containment systems, ELV systems, etc.
- Validate routing, space allocation, and constructability of all MEP systems inside shafts, corridors, risers, plant rooms, and ceiling spaces.
- Ensure MEP models comply with project specifications, IFC drawings, authority requirements, and international standards (ASHRAE, NFPA, IPC, NEC, SMACNA).
3. Clash Detection & Issue Resolution
- Run weekly clash detection using Navisworks, Revit, or similar tools and generate clash reports.
- Lead coordination meetings with subcontractors, consultants, and internal teams to close clashes.
- Track clash resolutions through BIM collaboration platforms (BIM360, ACC, Navis Manage, Revizto, etc.).
- Ensure timely closure of all design or construction interface issues.
4. Shop Drawings & As‑Built Deliverables
- Manage production and approval of MEP composite shop drawings, coordinated layouts, sections, and details.
- Review and validate MEP shop drawings for accuracy against models and specifications.
- Ensure proper extraction of drawings, schedules, quantity take‑offs (QTO), and fabrication details.
- Oversee preparation of as‑built models for final handover in compliance with project requirements.
5. BIM Workflow, Standards & Documentation
- Implement the project BIM Execution Plan (BEP), modeling standards, QA/QC protocols, and workflows.
- Enforce BIM standards across all internal and subcontractor teams.
- Maintain model versions, documentation logs, federated models, and coordination records.
- Provide BIM progress reports, clash status, and digital coordination dashboards.
6. Leadership & Team Management
- Lead, train, and mentor a team of BIM modelers / coordinators.
- Allocate workloads, monitor performance, and ensure high‑quality BIM outputs.
- Work closely with project managers, design managers, engineering teams, and site teams to ensure alignment.
- Facilitate digital engineering knowledge transfer and continuous improvement.
7. Construction Support & Site Integration
- Support installation teams with model‑based clarifications, coordination drawings, and site‑specific detailing.
- Perform site walkdowns to verify installation vs. BIM model (BIM‑to‑site compliance).
- Support T&C planning by integrating system testing sequences and asset data into BIM models.
