Job description

Main Purpose:

To provide technical leadership and assurance in geophysical interpretation and subsurface characterisation supporting project planning, risk assessment and regulatory confidence for subsurface energy developments.


Job Accountabilities:

  • Lead geophysical data interpretation and integration to characterise subsurface structure, stratigraphy and geo-mechanical conditions.
  • Define and review geophysical study scopes, including seismic, logging and other subsurface investigation techniques aligned with project objectives.
  • Integrate geophysical interpretations with geology, hydrogeology and reservoir data to build a coherent subsurface understanding.
  • Assess subsurface uncertainties and risks, including structural integrity, faulting and continuity, and provide guidance on mitigation measures.
  • Provide geophysical inputs to environmental studies, risk assessments and regulatory submissions where subsurface integrity is critical.
  • Review and technically validate consultant studies, geophysical dataset, and interpretations.
  • Assist the regulatory and project teams by providing technical justifications, responses and expert inputs to authorities and reviewers.
  • Track and evaluate industry best practices and emerging geophysical methodologies relevant to subsurface energy projects.
  • Prepare and present technical reports, interpretation summaries, and risk assessments to senior management and stakeholders.


Skills

  • Strong expertise in seismic interpretation, subsurface imaging and data integration.
  • Experience supporting project development, environmental assessments and regulatory engagement.
  • Ability to exercise independent technical judgement in complex and low-precedent environments.
  • Strong analytical, documentation and stakeholder communication skills.


Qualification:

  • Master’s degree in Geophysics, Applied Geophysics, Earth Sciences or related discipline.


Experience:

  • 12-18 years of experience in geophysical interpretation and subsurface characterisation, preferably in energy, mining or infrastructure sectors.
