Responsibilities


Installation of Internals: Precise fitting of trays, support rings, downcomers, and distributors. This requires high attention to detail to ensure everything is level and secured to specific torque requirements.Blind-to-Blind Execution: Managing the entire process of opening the vessel (blinding), performing the work, and sealing it back up (de-blinding) for pressurized operation.Packing Operations: Loading and unloading structured or random packing (such as Raschig rings or Pall rings) while ensuring even distribution to prevent "channeling" of fluids.Hardware Inspection: Checking for missing bolts, weeping joints, or thinning metal (corrosion) on the tray decks that could lead to mechanical failure.Emergency Repairs: Performing "hot" or rapid-response repairs during unplanned outages to restore column hydraulics and product purity.


Scope


Precision Leveling: Using specialized tools to ensure tray decks are perfectly horizontal, as even a slight tilt can cause liquid to bypass the vapor, ruining the distillation process.Confined Space Entry: This is a primary aspect of the role, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols (gas testing, hole-watch, and breathing apparatus) while working in cramped, vertical environments.Rigging and Lifting: Maneuvering heavy internal components through narrow manways using specialized hoists and pulleys.


Essential Skills


Mechanical Aptitude: Proficiency with pneumatic tools, torque wrenches, and metal fabrication.Blueprint Literacy: Ability to interpret "as-built" internal drawings to ensure parts are placed in the exact sequence required by the process engineers.Stamina & Agility: The role is physically demanding, involving climbing internal ladders and working in high-temperature or high-pressure environments.
