Pricing Underwriting Support – Specialist – Input & Portal



Position Summary



·This role sits within the UK Underwriting Team and focuses on early‑stage underwriting activities across two core areas: Initial Underwriting Inputting and Portal “Kick Out” Case Processing. 



·You will interpret broker submissions, assess system‑referred New Business cases, apply underwriting logic, review risk indicators, and determine whether cases can be accepted or require escalation.



·You will support Underwriters by inputting and validating large data sets using scheme specifications, eligibility rules, benefit designs, and scheme variations. This involves developing strong technical knowledge of Group Risk principles, including eligibility, benefit design, and common risk factors.



·The role is ideal for someone with strong attention to detail, excellent organisational skills, and an interest in building technical underwriting expertise. You will work within a collaborative team -discussing complex cases, assisting colleagues with queries, and contributing to shared learning and training.




Key Responsibilities



Portal Case Processing & Initial Underwriting



·Review and assess portal referrals, confirming key triggers (e.g., FCL, eligibility, industry risk).



·Apply Group Risk underwriting logic to determine accept, conditions, escalation, or information requests within authority and SLA timelines.



·Interpret broker submissions and supporting documents, recording clear and concise rationale.



DaInputting & Scheme Support



·Accurately input and validate data, eligibility rules, and benefit designs across new business and renewals.



·Process scheme variations and bulk data loads, ensuring accurate calculations and clean datasets.



·Maintain high‑quality, audit‑ready records and flag data issues.



Collaboration & Team Support



·Work closely with Underwriting, Sales, Operations, and Claims to progress cases efficiently end‑to‑end.



·Communicate clearly with brokers via email to request missing information or clarification.



·Escalate complex or outside‑authority cases with concise risk summaries and recommendations.



·Support team discussions, training, and ongoing knowledge‑sharing.



Quality, Compliance & Improvement



·Follow underwriting guidelines, procedures, and regulatory requirements, maintaining accurate notes and audit trails.



·Meet quality, accuracy, and SLA expectations.



·Contribute to process improvements, including templates, data validation, and workflow efficiency.



·Support internal audits and updates to SOPs and training materials.






Education



·Required: Bachelor’s degree in any discipline, or a diploma equivalent to a minimum of 15 years of education.



·Preferred: Relevant financialservices qualifications such as GR1, CII certifications, or equivalent.




Experience



·Minimum 3–4 years of experience working within an Underwriting function.



·Proven ability to deliver strong customer support with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and timely service.



Preferred (but not essential):



·Experience working directly with stakeholders, handling queries or clarifications.



·Familiarity with UK Group Risk products (e.g., Life, Income Protection, Critical Illness).



·Background in SLA‑driven, accuracy‑critical environments or experience triaging and prioritising cases.




Skills



·Excellent written and verbal communication skills (UK English).



·Exceptional accuracy and attention to detail.



·Strong organisation and prioritisation abilities in a deadlinedriven environment.



·Proficient in Excel, including data validation, lookups, and reconciliation.



·Confident problemsolving skills with sound judgement on when to escalate.



·Collaborative and adaptable, with a strong desire to grow underwriting expertise.



·Commercially aware, supporting balanced and sustainable business growth.



·Proactive in identifying improvements and enhancing quality, accuracy, and process efficiency.
