Job description

To provide critical technical and operational support for the R&D laboratory. This role is responsible for setting up, conducting, and analyzing experiments and tests on prototypes, materials, and components. The Technical Lab Engineer ensures the lab operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with standards, generating reliable data to drive design decisions and product validation.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Set up, calibrate, operate, and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, and test rigs (e.g., environmental chambers, data acquisition systems, tensile testers, fluid flow benches).


2. Develop and execute detailed test plans, procedures, and protocols based on engineering requirements from Design and Product Engineers.


3. Conduct hands-on testing of prototypes, materials, and components for performance, durability, reliability, and safety.


4. Accurately collect, record, and organize experimental data using lab notebooks and digital systems.


5. Perform preliminary data analysis, create test reports, and present findings clearly to the engineering team.


6. Fabricate and assemble prototype components and test fixtures using basic workshop tools, 3D printers, and light machining equipment.


7. Ensure all laboratory activities are conducted in strict accordance with safety protocols, quality standards (ISO/IEC 17025), and regulatory guidelines.


8. Maintain accurate calibration, maintenance, and safety logs for all lab equipment.


9. Manage laboratory inventory, including ordering supplies, chemicals, and spare parts, while ensuring proper storage and handling.





10. Serve as the primary point of contact for laboratory safety, conducting regular inspections and promoting a strong safety culture.


11. Provide direct technical support to R&D engineers in designing experiments and troubleshooting test setups.


12. Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Design, Quality, Manufacturing) to support failure analysis and root-cause investigations.


13. Contribute to the development and improvement of lab capabilities, test methods, and standard operating procedures (SOPs).


14. Document lab processes and create work instructions for equipment use and testing methodologies.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities. May oversee the work of lab technicians or interns on specific tasks/projects.
