Your role and responsibilities

As a Designer: Generalist, you will be a champion for the people who use our products and services, creating delightful experiences through emotional design. You will be responsible for translating requirements into hypothesis and exploring them with users through research methods and facilitation. Your primary responsibilities will include:



  • Be a passionate designer who thrives in uncertainty and ambiguity, bringing clarity to complex technical problems.
  • Own the end-to-end design process from discovery through GA release.
  • Develop strong domain expertise across enterprise IT and security products, deeply understanding customer workflows and Jobs-to-be-Done (JTBD).
  • Collaborate closely with Product Management and Engineering to define priorities, shape roadmaps, and guide product innovation.
  • Translate research insights into wireframes, prototypes, and enterprise-ready designs
  • Plan and execute generative and evaluative research (interviews, usability testing, analytics review).
  • Create low-and high-fidelity mockups, journey maps, patterns, prototypes, and development-ready specifications.
  • Partner with engineering on feasibility, responsiveness, accessibility, and implementation details.
  • Work iteratively in a fast-paced, distributed environment, incorporating user and stakeholder feedback continuously.
  • Leverage and contribute to the Carbon Design System to elevate design consistency and quality.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to define and prioritise features critical to customer success.


Required education
Bachelor's Degree

Required technical and professional expertise
  • 3-8 years of experience designing complex user interfaces and enterprise-grade applications.
  • Proven experience designing for technical users
  • Strong portfolio demonstrating end-to-end UX process: discovery, ideation, prototyping, testing, and delivery (mandatory).
  • Experience leading user research studies and synthesising insights into actionable product decisions.
  • Proficiency in modern UX tools (Figma, Mural, Dovetail, Qualtrics, UserZoom, etc.).
  • Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams with globally distributed stakeholders.
  • Strong understanding of interaction design, information architecture, usability, and accessibility principles.
  • Excellent storytelling, written communication, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated ownership mindset and ability to drive impact independently.


Preferred technical and professional experience
  • Familiarity with IBM products and enterprise ecosystems.
  • Experience contributing to or scaling design systems.
  • Experience working with analytics-driven product optimisation.
  • Alignment with IBM Design Principles and a commitment to inclusive, human-centred design.
