Role Purpose
The Manager IT Build and Release Automation manages a team and drives Configuration and Release Management processes for the Global Technology function and
for business stakeholders. The Manager manages the installation planning process for staging and production environments, as well as, develops standards, processes
and controls for configuration and release activities.
Key Accountabilities
- Manages technical design efforts for IHG’s Configuration and Release Management practice by working closely across multiple Global Technology Teams to ensure effective use of Configuration and Release
- Management standards and tools are in practice with the intent to arrive at optimal business solutions within the constraints of time, cost and existing technology platforms.
- Manages the production release process to make sure data center operations are robust, this includes system load tests and a progressive release process
- Provides guidance to developers and configuration/release team members in the preparation of build analyses, design alternatives, installation scripts and programs, schedules and evaluations
- Conducts strategic planning activities by managing and executing the Configuration Management process and the end to end Release Management process for technology solutions delivered through the execution of IT projects and IT support activities
- Coordinates all aspects of a release lifecycle including development/test activities
- Establishes and facilitates release team meetings, coordinates issues and/or facilitates solutions pertaining to the release process, and maintains release documentation
- Maintain stack diagrams, configuration information and release history for all environments.
Key Skills & Experiences
Education
- Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a relevant field of work or an equivalent combination of education and work related experience.
Experience
- Typically a minimum of 10+ years of progressive work related experience with demonstrated proficiency in multiple disciplines, technologies, or processes related to the position.
Technical Skills and Knowledge
- Experience leading Configuration and Release Management practices and process definition for processes
- Experience and strong subject matter expertise with the implementation and ongoing maturing across technologies and Release Management capabilities and systems is required
- Solid understanding in software development lifecycle, configuration and change control management
- Solid understanding of Data Center policies, procedures and best practices
- Ability to take strategic decisions and build a long-term process vision / strategy for each process
- Ability to operationalize processes and tools from requirements through engineering and deployment
- Breadth and experience of IT design, development and technical knowledge.
- Knowledge of technology platforms and interdependencies with hardware and software platforms used within the business
- Demonstrated effectiveness in executive presentation and escalation management
- Strong leadership skills as a change agent using influence and inspiration in addition to developing multi-disciplined work teams
- Ability to work across multiple levels of the organization from developers to senior leadership team members
- Strong process improvement capabilities demonstrating the ability to proactively identify problems and recommend solutions.
- Strong customer-service orientation and a commitment to lead others to achieve outstanding customer satisfaction.
- Demonstrated project management experience in organizing, planning and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.
- Demonstrated effective verbal and written communication skills with ability to take highly technical information and present to all levels of management, technical staffs, and business/professional contacts. Strong consulting and interpersonal skills.
- Analytical abilities, result-focused, action oriented, and ability to work effectively with customers and IT Leaders.
- Able to confidently utilize MS Word, MS Excel, MS SharePoint & MS Visio.
- The ability to maintain discretion and confidentiality.
