Job Purpose

Provides technical expertise and advisory services to the Operations Function on corrosion monitoring, control, mitigation and material performance with respect to down hole equipment, pipelines and other production and export facilities in the fields and terminal. 
Leads the development of long term corrosion monitoring, control and mitigation strategies and the development of related programs. Directs and participates in fitness for purpose evaluations of components suffering corrosion or metallurgical deterioration. 




Job Specific Accountabilities

•    Participates in the development of and implements the Company's corrosion monitoring, control and mitigation policies and standards designed to minimize the corrosive effects on a wide variety of structures, facilities and associated equipment. Provides expert advice to operations divisions on work programs related to cathodic protection; internal corrosion monitoring; materials selection/specification; failure analysis; data gathering and processing; paint specifications; materials preservation and other related corrosion inspection programs.
•    Participates in the development, implementation and maintenance of company-wide Corrosion and Inspection Management System (CIMS) and related procedures for corrosion monitoring, control and material selection. 
•    Checks and verifies proposals related to evaluation of plant/component fitness for purpose. Includes evaluating materials performance, recommends appropriate corrosion mitigation measures to prevent recurrence, highlights areas of concern and advises where improvements of protective systems are needed.
•    Reviews and advises on corrosion mitigation measures indicated in design and materials specifications proposals for new/modified surface facilities projects. Ensures that adequate corrosion control and monitoring systems are in place. Participates in the selection of inspection contractors by evaluating bids and recommending most suitable contractors, as appropriate. Advises on the selection of corrosion monitoring devises and coating materials.
•    Monitors and evaluates all corrosion monitoring/ protection activities through spot checks, examination of log data and verbal reports. Ensures that corrosion levels remain within industry acceptable levels and recommends appropriate corrosion control, corrosion monitoring, or material selection changes as required. Takes appropriate action to identify nature and scope of problems, and devises appropriate solutions when data show corrosion rates outside accepted limits. Follows up with asset holders to ensure timely implementation of recommendations. Reports on corrosion monitoring activities and results.
•    Audits ongoing corrosion control and mitigation programs by operations departments and participates in investigation and recommendation of cost effective alternatives, recommends application of new techniques to user and concerned departments in operations, engineering and other divisions. Coordinates with operations initiation of special investigation/testing of cathodic protection systems and pig cleaning programs.
•    Troubleshoots operational problems which arise within the areas of expertise in corrosion and inspection.  Performs failure investigations and recommends necessary corrective actions including modifications to existing corrosion control programs, corrosion monitoring programs, inspection programs, or material selection guidelines, as required.
•    Liaises with other corrosion/materials engineering units in the Company on the establishment and updating of corrosion/materials engineering standards, inspection philosophies and the preparation of standard corrosion control/inspection contract framework. 




Minimum Qualification

Bachelor Degree in Chemical Engineering, Electrochemistry or Metallurgy, or other related engineering discipline.




Minimum Experience, Knowledge & Skills

8 years of experience in corrosion control and mitigation within the oil/gas production industry including at least 5 years in a supervisory position.
