Job description

Road Engineer will be responsible for reviewing, managing, and supervising road design and construction works for a PMC infrastructure project involving roads, bridges, and tunnels. The role ensures that road alignments, geometric designs, pavement systems, and construction activities comply with project specifications, international standards, and client and authority requirements.


Responsibilities


  • Review and approve road designs, drawings, specifications, and method statements submitted by contractors.
  • Ensure designs comply with project requirements, international standards (AASHTO, IRC, BS, Eurocodes), and local authority regulations.
  • Coordinate road design with bridges, tunnels, utilities, drainage, and ITS systems.
  • Review and monitor pavement designs including subgrade, base, sub-base, asphalt, and concrete layers.
  • Review material selection, mix designs, and construction methodology.
  • Ensure durability, performance, and long-term serviceability of pavements.
  • Coordinate road alignment, profile, and interfaces with bridge and tunnel structures.
  • Ensure safe transition zones, access ramps, and approach roads are properly designed.
  • Review temporary traffic arrangements during construction near bridges and tunnels.
  • Monitor road construction works to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality standards.
  • Review inspection requests, test results, and non-conformance reports (NCRs) and verify corrective actions.
  • Provide technical guidance during critical construction stages and temporary works.
  • Liaise with contractors, designers, authorities, and the client on road engineering matters.
  • Resolve design and construction issues in a timely manner.
  • Attend technical meetings, workshops, and site inspections.
  • Maintain records of design approvals, inspections, testing, and compliance documentation.
  • Prepare periodic reports on road construction progress, risks, and technical issues.
  • Support authority approvals, audits, and client reporting requirements.

Requirements


  • Bachelor’s degree in civil / Highway / Road Engineering.
  • Master’s Degree is an advantage.
  • Minimum 12 years of experience in road engineering for major infrastructure projects.
  • Experience on roads, bridges, and tunnel projects.
  • PMC or consultancy experience is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of highway geometric design, pavement engineering, and construction methodology.
  • Familiarity with international road design codes and standards.
  • Excellent coordination, communication, and technical reporting skills.
