Job Summary

The Costing Section Head / Senior Cost Accountant  is responsible for managing and overseeing all cost accounting activities related to manufacturing, fabrication, and project-based steel production. The role ensures accurate product costing, monitoring of manufacturing variances, and supporting management with cost analysis for strategic decision-making.

The position works closely with Production, Engineering, Procurement, and Finance teams to ensure cost efficiency and profitability across structural steel fabrication projects and manufacturing operations.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Product Costing

·       Manage and supervise all costing activities related to structural steel fabrication and manufacturing operations.

·       Develop and maintain standard cost models for steel products, fabrication processes, and project-based manufacturing.

·       Calculate product cost per ton / per project including raw materials, labor, overhead, and fabrication costs.

·       Analyze Bill of Materials (BOM) and routing structures for accurate cost allocation.

·       Maintain and update cost structures based on changes in steel prices, labor rates, and production efficiency.

Manufacturing Cost Control

  • Monitor and analyze manufacturing variances (material usage, labor efficiency, overhead absorption).
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities across fabrication, production, and operational processes.
  • Track production costs vs. standard costs and highlight deviations to management.
  • Support operational teams in improving cost efficiency and reducing waste.

Project Costing (Structural Steel & PEB Projects)

  • Support estimation and costing for structural steel projects and pre-engineered building projects.
  • Review project budgets and monitor actual project costs versus estimated costs.
  • Work closely with engineering and project management teams to analyze cost drivers.
  • Prepare project profitability analysis and margin reports.

Inventory & Material Costing

  • Oversee inventory valuation and cost tracking of raw materials, WIP, and finished goods.
  • Monitor steel consumption, scrap levels, and material yield.
  • Ensure proper costing treatment for steel coils, plates, and fabrication materials.

Financial Analysis & Reporting

  • Prepare monthly cost reports, variance analysis, and cost performance dashboards.
  • Provide management with insights on cost trends, margins, and operational efficiency.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and cost planning activities.

Systems & Process Improvement

  • Improve costing methodologies and internal controls within the manufacturing process.
  • Support ERP system implementation or enhancement related to cost accounting.
  • Standardize costing processes and reporting procedures.

Leadership & Team Management

  • Lead and supervise the costing team and ensure timely completion of cost accounting tasks.
  • Train and mentor team members on costing methodologies and financial analysis.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional departments including production, procurement, engineering, and finance.
