NES Fircroft are looking for a Project Controls Lead to join a major project in Mozambique, initially starting in Milan before being based full time in Maputo, Mozambique on residential status.
This is a key leadership position within the Project Services organisation, supporting a large-scale, internationally funded oil & gas development.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deputise for the Onshore Project Services Manager when required
  • Provide Project Management and Project Controls support to the Project Management Team (PMT) for specific tasks or issues
  • Supervise a multi-location Project Controls team
Main Activities Responsible for the coordination and delivery of Project Control activities, including:
  • Supporting the Project Controls Team and overseeing actions, processes, procedures, and deliverables across:
    • Schedule
    • Cost
    • Risk
    • Change Control
      through effective management and reporting
  • Maintaining robust project controls covering cost, budget, schedule, and progress tracking
  • Maintaining risk management processes to ensure effective project risk management
  • Maintaining reporting criteria, content, and formats for all onshore reporting requirements
  • Monitoring schedule interfaces across multiple contractors and resolving scheduling conflicts
  • Ensuring cost reports are prepared accurately, clearly explained, and effectively communicated to the project team
  • Tracking contingency, management reserves, and approved changes to the project budget
  • Coordinating between Project Controls and Contracts & Procurement (C&P) functions
  • Deputising for the Onshore Project Services Manager when required
  • Providing Project Management support to the General Manager for specific tasks or issues
  • Promoting a strong culture of HSE (Health, Safety & Environment) awareness across the project
Context & Environment
  • The project entity is a multinational partner joint venture with a significant social performance component, financed by high‑profile international lenders
  • Strong awareness of stakeholder management and reporting requirements is essential
Accountabilities
  • Control of project budgets, schedules, risk, and change management
  • Ensuring the Project Management Team is fully informed of key project drivers, performance indicators, and critical metrics
Qualifications & Experience Required
  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or Business Management
  • Experience:
    • Minimum 10+ years of Project Controls experience on major oil & gas developments
    • Proven experience working on large-scale oil & gas projects with Partner and Government reporting interfaces
  • Core Competencies:
    • Strong organisational skills with a clear commitment to meeting deadlines
    • Excellent communication and presentation skills
    • In-depth knowledge of:
      • Cost engineering principles
      • Scheduling and planning methodologies
