Job description

The Fire & HSE Officer shall be responsible for the comprehensive maintenance of fire protection systems and manage all contractual Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) related activities. This role involves providing training and rescue plans as directed by the Superintendent, ensuring full compliance with company requirements.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the operational readiness of all fire protection system equipment at the site. 
  • Perform troubleshooting and fault finding for fire trucks and certify all types of fire protection systems and equipment. 
  • Manage scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, inspection, and performance testing of fire protection systems and devices according to manufacturer's recommendations. 
  • Initiate testing of installed fire equipment to ensure continuous sound working condition and report defects for repair. 
  • Undertake testing of new fire protection system installations and report status. 
  • Document all fire protection maintenance activities, history cards, daily reports, and track inventory of equipment and spare parts. 
  • Maintain a schedule for fire drills and exercises to promote awareness and familiarity with fire equipment and systems. 
  • Prepare spare parts inventory lists, maintenance schedules, and checklists for all firefighting systems in consultation with the Superintendent's Representative. 
  • Plan and conduct innovative and advanced fire emergency drills, including MEDEVAC drills. 
  • Conduct weekly tests for fire water pumps, routine tests for portable firefighting systems, and annual fire water pump performance tests. 
  • Inspect defective equipment to determine the extent of wear/tear or damage and advise on remedial measures. 
  • Prepare and submit the annual EHS plan and monthly EHS reports for the contractor to the company. 
  • Review layout drawings of plant areas and fire prevention/protection issues, recommending best methods for fire protection systems. 
  • Review manuals for new products, equipment, or systems related to fire prevention, protection, and detection, and advise on improvement options. 
  • Prepare Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for all scheduled and unscheduled activities and maintain the work permit system. 
  • Conduct daily worksite inspections to identify and mitigate hazards. 
  • Report and investigate all near misses, incidents, and accidents, identify root causes, and implement corrective actions.
  • Report unsafe acts/conditions and initiate corrective actions. 
  • Conduct daily toolbox talks.
