Mechanical Engineer


Position Summary:
The Mechanical Engineer will be based on-site in Basra, Iraq, and will be responsible for supervising and executing mechanical installation works for static and rotary equipment within an EPC oil & gas construction project. The role ensures that all installation activities are performed safely, in compliance with project specifications, approved drawings, international standards, and HSE requirements.


The Mechanical Engineer will coordinate closely with construction, QA/QC, piping, commissioning teams, and subcontractors to ensure proper installation, alignment, testing, and timely project delivery while maintaining quality and safety standards throughout the project lifecycle.


Responsibilities:


  • Supervise installation of static equipment including pressure vessels, heat exchangers, columns, tanks, separators, and other process equipment in accordance with approved drawings and specifications.
  • Oversee installation, alignment, and grouting of rotary equipment including pumps, compressors, blowers, and package units as per manufacturer requirements and project standards.
  • Monitor piping installation works including supports, fit-up, routing, and hydrotest preparation to ensure compliance with approved isometrics and piping layouts.
  • Verify equipment foundation preparation, anchor bolt positioning, and base plate leveling prior to equipment erection.
  • Ensure proper execution of cold and hot alignment, shaft alignment, and pre-commissioning mechanical checks for rotating equipment.
  • Review mechanical drawings such as GA drawings, P&IDs, isometrics, vendor drawings, and method statements to ensure correct site implementation.
  • Coordinate with QA/QC for inspections, material verification, NDT requirements, hydrostatic testing, and mechanical completion documentation.
  • Interface with other disciplines including E&I and civil teams to ensure proper coordination of mechanical installations.
  • Ensure compliance with international standards such as ASME, API, and project technical specifications.
  • Support pre-commissioning and commissioning activities including flushing, leak testing, mechanical run tests, and system handover to operations.
  • Participate in daily progress meetings, monitor subcontractor performance, and report progress to the Construction Manager.
  • Ensure strict adherence to HSE regulations, conduct risk assessments, and ensure safe mechanical lifting, rigging, and installation activities on site.
