Role: System Requirements Engineer – MCU (Motor Control Unit)


The System Requirements Engineer – Motor Control Unit (MCU) will be responsible for defining and eliciting System Requirements in line with Stakeholder/Customer requirements of electric drive control systems, including inverter control, motor management, torque control, and safety mechanisms. The role focuses on creating clarity on system level design and providing understanding for traction motors in electric and hybrid vehicles.


Key Responsibilities


  • Define the system definitions for the Motor Control Unit (MCU), covering hardware, software, control algorithms, communication interfaces, and diagnostics.
  • Translate vehicle-level requirements from customers into system-level specifications and interface definitions.
  • Define functional and non-functional requirements (e.g., safety, performance, thermal limits, and fault tolerance) in collaboration with System Architect
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams to ensure alignment between control algorithms, microcontroller architecture, and inverter design.
  • Ensure compliance with Functional Safety (ISO 26262) and Cybersecurity (ISO/SAE 21434) standards.
  • Support ASIL-level definition, FMEA, FTA, and safety concept creation.
  • Define communication architecture (CAN, Ethernet etc.) for torque request, inverter feedback, and diagnostic interfaces.
  • Work with control algorithm teams to integrate FOC (Field-Oriented Control), PWM strategies, sensorless estimation, and torque/speed control loops.
  • Lead model-based systems engineering (MBSE) using relevant tools such as Enterprise Architect, SysML etc.
  • Identify methods and framework to reuse requirements within and across product groups
  • Interface with OEM customers and internal teams to review architecture design and ensure alignment with program goals.

Qualifications: 


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical, Electronics or Computer Science Engineering.
  • 8-14 years of experience in motor control systems, power electronics, or embedded systems for automotive or industrial applications.
  • Strong understanding of motor control principles (BLDC, PMSM, or induction motor).
  • Experience with real-time embedded systems and microcontroller architectures (Infineon, NXP, TI, Renesas etc.).
  • Knowledge of AUTOSAR, embedded C, and real-time OS concepts.
  • Proven experience with ISO 26262 Functional Safety (ASIL C/D systems).
  • Familiarity with hardware-software co-design, power stage topologies, and inverter architecture.
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g. DOORS).
  • Good understanding of vehicle communication networks and diagnostic standards (UDS, ISO 14229).
  • Excellent analytical, communication, and system-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
