Department OverviewThe Cloud Platform Engineering team is responsible for the development and operations of critical cloud infrastructure and platform services, in support of Motorola Solutions' public and hybrid cloud-based Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions for public safety customers. This team is part of Motorola Solutions’ Software Enterprise division, which offers secure, reliable, and efficient team communications, workflow, and operational intelligence solutions for mission critical public safety and enterprise markets throughout the world. Our services leverage Cloud Computing infrastructure on Azure, AWS, and GCP to build at scale.
Job Description

Motorola Solutions is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager of Software Engineering to lead and mentor a team of managers & software engineers. This role requires a strong technical background with proven experience in designing, developing, and maintaining high-quality software for complex products and systems. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall technical direction, performance, and growth of the engineering team while actively contributing to the development of key software components.




Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field preferred.



  • 10+ years of experience in software development, with at least 6 years in a team lead or management role.



  • Strong proficiency in Java, REST APIs, Web Services, Hibernate, Spring frameworks, and Angular



  • Experience with Agile development methodologies (e.g., Scrum, Kanban).



  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.



  • Demonstrated success in leading cross-functional engineering initiatives.



  • Expertise with Kubernetes, Docker, and modern cloud services.




Basic Requirements

As a Senior Manager, Software Engineering, you will lead teams focused on Full Stack development. Your role will be instrumental in setting the technical vision, developing leadership within the teams, and ensuring alignment with strategic goals across departments. You will drive the development of secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions while fostering innovation and collaboration within a high-velocity environment.




Key Responsibilities:



Leadership & Team Management:



- Provide strong leadership, direction, and mentoring to teams, fostering professional growth and developing technical and leadership talent.



- Drive a results-oriented, collaborative culture, while ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.



- Manage resource allocation, team performance, and career development to ensure successful project delivery.




Strategic Planning & Execution:



- Work closely with senior leadership to align with Motorola Solutions' long-term technical and business objectives.



- Lead the technical strategy and roadmap for Full Stack development, ensuring it meets both immediate project needs and long-term scalability.



- Balance technical debt, innovation, and quality to meet project deadlines and customer needs.




Cross-functional Coordination:



- Collaborate with other engineering teams, product management, and stakeholders to ensure integrated solutions are delivered efficiently.



- Act as the primary liaison between your teams and other departments (e.g., DevOps, Security, and Product teams) to coordinate releases, resolve issues, and drive continuous improvement.




Operational Excellence:



- Oversee platform architecture and operational processes, ensuring robust performance and reliability in alignment with security and compliance standards.



- Implement and promote DevOps and automation practices, focusing on increasing delivery speed and ensuring platform security and reliability.




Security & Compliance:



- Ensure adherence to security best practices, regulatory requirements, and performance benchmarks.



- Stay informed of the latest advancements in the IAM domain and cloud infrastructure technologies, ensuring teams remain up-to-date and compliant.




Continuous Improvement:



- Promote a culture of innovation, encouraging teams to explore new tools, technologies, and methodologies that enhance development efficiency and service reliability.



- Lead retrospectives and post-mortem reviews to identify areas for process and performance improvements.
