Detailed Technical Responsibilities
· Administer SAP systems, profiles, transports, background jobs, RFCs, ICM/gateway, spool, dumps, locks and application services.
· Resolve L2 Basis incidents involving job failures, dumps, RFC failures, transport errors, performance degradation and SAP service restarts.
· Troubleshoot IDoc, qRFC/tRFC, SOAP/REST/API, CPI iFlow, PI/PO message and certificate/endpoint issues.
· Execute approved changes such as transport imports, profile updates, job schedule changes, interface reprocessing and controlled restarts.
· Prepare change plans, rollback steps, pre/post checks and RCA inputs.
Day-to-Day Technical Skills
· Strong SAP Basis transactions: SM51, SM50/66, SM37, ST22, SM21, ST02, ST03N, STMS, RZ10/RZ11, SM59, ICM, SPAM/SAINT and SUM basics.
· Integration operations using WE02/WE05/BD87, SM58, SMQ1/SMQ2, SRT_MONI, CPI message monitoring and PI/PO monitoring.
· Understanding of SAP kernel directories, profiles, transport directory, RFC trust, gateway/ICM and certificates.
· Ability to correlate SAP issues with OS, DB, network, firewall, DNS and proxy layers.
· Shell scripting basics for automation, evidence capture and operational reporting.
SAP RISE AMS Delivery Expectations
· Mandatory working exposure to SAP RISE or SAP AMS managed services, including DEV, QAS, PRD and DR landscape support.
· Work within SAP, customer, hyperscaler and AMS shared-responsibility boundaries with clear ownership and escalation discipline.
· Support Incident, Service Request, Change, Problem, RCA, Knowledge and CDD activities using ITSM workflows.
· Participate in 24x7 support, shift handover, controlled maintenance windows, CAB approvals and audit-ready documentation.
· Coordinate across SAP Basis, HANA/DB, integration, infrastructure, security, network, customer business teams and SAP support.
Upgrade / Patch / Deployment / Configuration Exposure
· Execute/support SAP kernel upgrades, SAP Host Agent updates, support package activities and SUM-based maintenance.
· Support SLES/RHEL patching and OS upgrade validation for SAP workloads with Basis pre/post checks.
· Support CPI/PI/iFlow deployments, certificate rotation, endpoint migration and post-change interface smoke testing.
· Support system refresh, client copy and post-copy automation coordination.
· Validate system availability, jobs, RFCs, interfaces, transports and performance after maintenance.
Monitoring, Management and ITSM Responsibilities
· Use ServiceNow or equivalent ITSM to maintain ticket categorization, priority, affected service/CI, business impact, evidence and closure notes.
· Support monitoring dashboards, health reports, SLA/OLA tracking, ticket ageing, backlog control and recurring alert review.
· Follow escalation matrix, major incident bridge protocol, change governance and problem management process.
· Maintain SOPs, runbooks, KB articles, handover notes and known-error database for repeated issues.
· Identify automation and shift-left opportunities for repeated operational tasks and standard requests.
Tools / Platforms
· SAP GUI, SUM, Maintenance Planner, SAP for Me, SAP Notes, SAP Cloud ALM, SolMan, Focused Run, SAP Integration Suite, PI/PO, ServiceNow.
Expected Deliverables and KPIs
· Basis incident MTTR, change success rate, transport reliability, job stability, interface availability and post-maintenance defect rate.
Preferred Certification / Evaluation Focus
· SAP Basis certification preferred. Interview focus: kernel upgrade, SUM, transport failure, RFC issue, IDoc/CPI failure and OS patch validation.
