We are seeking a Engineering Manager to lead and grow high-performing engineering teams delivering mission-critical software for energy and water utilities worldwide. This role blends technical leadership, people management, and delivery ownership to build secure, scalable, and high-quality platforms that support Itron’s smart infrastructure and data solutions.


Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Leadership
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and architectural guidance for complex, distributed systems


  • Drive engineering best practices across design, development, testing, security, and deployment


  • Ensure solutions meet performance, reliability, scalability, and compliance requirements


  • Guide teams in making sound technology choices aligned with long-term platform strategy


Delivery & Execution
  • Own end-to-end delivery for assigned product areas


  • Translate product requirements into technical execution plans


  • Ensure predictable delivery through strong planning, estimation, and prioritization


  • Balance feature development, technical debt reduction, and operational excellence


  • Establish and track engineering KPIs for quality, reliability, and velocity


  • Apply Agile practices across the SDLC to enable predictable delivery


People Leadership
  • Build, mentor, and retain high-performing engineering teams


  • Conduct performance management, coaching, and career development


  • Foster a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement


  • Support hiring and onboarding of engineers and technical leads


Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Partner closely with Product Management, QA, DevOps, Security, and Customer Support


  • Act as a technical advisor to business and product stakeholders


  • Communicate progress, risks, and tradeoffs clearly to leadership


  • Support customer escalations and production issues when required


Quality, Security & Compliance
  • Ensure adherence to secure development practices and regulatory standards


  • Improve automation for CI/CD, testing, and monitoring


  • Promote reliability engineering and operational readiness


  • Drive root-cause analysis and long-term fixes for production issues


Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience with at least 2 years in a technical leadership and people management role


  • Strong background in system design and modern software architecture


  • Good understanding of mobile-based solutioning (Android/iOS, offline-first apps, field applications) is a plus


  • Experience building and operating cloud-based or distributed systems


  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle and Agile practices


  • Proven ability to lead teams delivering enterprise-grade products


  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
