Your role in the Team's Success


The team is responsible for building IG's APAC and ME technology applications, focusing on high-performance, low-latency systems where reliability and accuracy are critical.


As an Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in designing, developing, and delivering complex applications, while providing technical leadership and mentoring to a team of engineers.


What you'll do


  • Collaborate with product managers and stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver solutions using full-stack technologies
  • Oversee the end-to-end implementation of projects, ensuring high-quality delivery and adherence to coding standards
  • Take on line management responsibilities, including hiring, mentoring, and supporting engineers
  • Drive technical direction and architecture of projects in alignment with best practices
  • Coordinate and prioritize tasks to ensure efficient delivery and team utilization
  • Participate in hands-on development activities including coding, debugging, and testing when required
  • Conduct code reviews and ensure adherence to coding standards, readability, and reuse
  • Promote a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and knowledge sharing
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve technical issues and mitigate risks
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends
  • Act as a liaison between technical teams and stakeholders, providing updates and addressing concerns
  • Support improvements in development processes and ways of working

What you'll need for this role


Key Qualification Requirements:


  • Experience: 12+ years of experience in application development. 


  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in React native, Java, Spring, typescript, microservice architecture, DynamoDB, lambdas, ECS containers and robust knowledge of AWS cloud infrastructure (API Gateway, AWS SAM, terraform, Kinesis/MSK/SQS/S3/EKS/ECS 


  • Product focus: we want to build a quality product therefore as an engineering leader you should also wear the product hat. 


  • Track record of delivery: proven track record of delivery using modern engineering and agile ways of working. 


  • Version Control: Experience with GitLab. 


  • Web Services: Expertise in developing and consuming RESTful web services. 


  • Agile Methodologies: Proficiency in Agile practices including pair programming, TDD, and BDD. 


  • Leadership: Proven ability to lead and mentor engineers, handle complex changes, and address impediments effectively. 


  • Proven track record of delivering high-quality software solutions on time and within budget


  • Ability to balance strategic thinking and hands-on involvement in technical projects.


  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools for continuous integration and delivery



Preferred Qualifications:


  • Knowledge of cloud platforms and services, such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
  • Experience of developing RESTful web services using Apache Tomcat.
  • Firm believer in the value of agile development methodologies, Pair programming, Test Driven Development, and Continuous Delivery.
  • ​Quick to assimilate new ideas and concepts – productive from day one in the role
  • Proven experience as a Technical Team Lead, Software Development Lead, or similar role, leading and managing technical teams
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices
  • Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate team members
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities, with a focus on driving results
  • Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
