About The Brand

Springer Nature’s Cureus journals offer a new, innovative way to support specific research communities to publish their research open access. More than just journals, they function as both peer-reviewed publication venues and interactive community space. Each title is hosted on its own dedicated page, providing a unique environment where researchers can share validated findings, connect with peers, and collaborate to drive innovation and real-world impact.

About The Journal

The Cureus Journal of AI-Augmented Research is a pioneering, AI-first scientific journal that explicitly encourages submissions in which artificial intelligence has been used throughout the research process, whether in part or in full. From hypothesis generation and experimental design to data analysis and manuscript preparation, the journal welcomes work that thoughtfully and transparently integrates AI as a core component of the scientific workflow, not as an add-on, but as an integral part of the research lifecycle.

About The Role
The Chief Editor of the Cureus Journal of AI-Augmented Research will be a visionary leader, community builder, and hands-on editor entrusted with launching and steering an innovative journal at the heart of AI-driven science. The Chief Editor will oversee a publication that sets new standards for open, ethical, and efficient research powered by both human expertise and artificial intelligence.

Role Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership and Vision

  • Shape and articulate a compelling editorial vision aligned with Cureus’ mission of inclusion, affordability, and scientific integrity.
  • Work closely with an expert advisory board to shape and evolve editorial guidelines for AI-assisted research and publishing workflows.
  • Define and champion the journal’s unique identity as an AI-first platform spanning all disciplines.
  • Act as the journal’s ambassador, promoting a culture of responsible AI adoption in research through outreach, thought leadership, and global collaborations.
  • Foster an inclusive, interdisciplinary research community spanning AI practitioners, domain scientists, and other stakeholders through events, partnerships, and community initiatives.

Editorial Operations and Manuscript Handling

  • Oversee end-to-end manuscript management, including AI-assisted initial screening, reviewer assignments, and peer review coordination.
  • Make timely and decisive judgments on manuscript acceptance, revision, or rejection, while upholding high standards of rigor, transparency, and ethics.
  • Collaborate with the Cureus editorial office and Springer Nature’s Content Innovation team to leverage advanced AI tools and ensure a rapid, fair, and author-centric publishing process.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine editorial workflows, integrating new AI capabilities while maintaining essential human editorial oversight.

Innovation and Content Development

  • Champion and pilot innovative publishing models, including AI-assisted submissions, interactive content, data publishing, and transparent peer review.
  • Experiment with content formats and policies that reflect the evolving landscape of AI-enabled authorship and collaborative science.
  • Guide the responsible integration of AI into processes such as ethical compliance checks, reviewer matching, and bias mitigation.

Qualifications

  • PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • Extensive, hands-on experience in AI-enabled research and/or digital publishing innovation.
  • Editorial, leadership, or community-building experience; a track record as an AI early adopter or thought leader is highly desirable.
  • Exceptionally strong communication, organizational, and mentoring skills.
  • Commitment to upholding the highest standards of scientific integrity, inclusion, and methodological rigor.

Why Join Us?

  • Shape the global conversation on ethical, impactful, AI-augmented research.
  • Pioneer a journal that models the future of research communication: fast, transparent, responsible, and human-centered.
  • Collaborate with a mission-driven open access publishing team and a worldwide network of forward-thinking researchers.

Eligibility
In accordance with our internal career movement guidance, 12 months in current role is a requirement before applying to a new role
