Job description

At Alstom, we understand transport networks and what moves people. From high-speed trains, metros, monorails, and trams, to turnkey systems, services, infrastructure, signalling and digital mobility, we offer our diverse customers the broadest portfolio in the industry. Every day, 80,000 colleagues lead the way to greener and smarter mobility worldwide, connecting cities as we reduce carbon and replace cars.

Could you be the full-time onsite Power Supply (POS) design Engineer in Cairo, EG we’re looking for?

Your future role

Take on a new challenge and apply your technical and problem-solving expertise in a cutting-edge field. You’ll work alongside innovative and collaborative teammates.

You'll play a key role in shaping the future of sustainable mobility by ensuring the efficient and reliable design of power supply systems. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with teams across the business (System Engineering, Installation, and Testing & Commissioning teams), manage technical interfaces with stakeholders, and support the development of power supply solutions that meet global standards and customer requirements.

You’ll specifically take care of designing high-voltage (HV) and low-voltage (LV) electrical systems and ensuring the integration of Reliability, Availability, Maintainability, and Safety (RAMS) requirements, but also support installation teams and oversee factory acceptance tests (FAT) when required.

We’ll look to you for:

  • Technical interface management with internal and external stakeholders

  • Technical management of suppliers and subcontractors

  • Ensuring on-time submission of Power Supply (POS) design documents

  • Providing support on POS topics to System Engineering and Installation teams

  • Developing and allocating requirements in collaboration with relevant specialists

  • Ensuring compliance with normative references and local standards

  • Defining global POS system architecture and ensuring consistency between subsystems

  • Conducting transversal studies related to POS (e.g., earthing & bonding)

  • Preparing and reviewing design deliverables, including technical criteria for components

  • Coordinating with off-shore design teams

  • Participating in design reviews and the DFQ process

  • Providing technical support during Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) if required

  • Elaborating, reviewing, and updating Bill of Quantities (BOQ)

All about you

We value passion and attitude over experience. That’s why we don’t expect you to have every single skill. Instead, we’ve listed some that we think will help you succeed and grow in this role:

  • Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field

  • Experience or understanding of power system studies using software like ETAP, SKM, etc.

  • Knowledge of substation secondary design, including protection schemes

  • Familiarity with infrastructure design at the medium-voltage (MV) level

  • Experience with MV/LV switchgears, transformers, generators, UPS, batteries, and cable design/specifications

  • Understanding of substation automation systems (SAS) and communication protocols, especially IEC 61850

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities

Things you’ll enjoy

Join us on a life-long transformative journey – the rail industry is here to stay, so you can grow and develop new skills and experiences throughout your career. You’ll also:

  • Progress towards becoming a pivotal figure in the integration of Power Supply (POS) engineering projects,
  • Collaborate with transverse teams and helpful colleagues,
  • Benefit from a fair and dynamic reward package that recognizes your performance and potential, plus comprehensive and competitive social coverage (life, medical).

You don’t need to be a train enthusiast to thrive with us. We guarantee that when you step onto one of our trains with your friends or family, you’ll be proud. If you’re up for the challenge, we’d love to hear from you!
