Job Summary
Synechron is seeking an experienced Control-M Engineer to oversee the design, scheduling, and management of batch jobs across diverse environments. This role is pivotal in ensuring efficient, reliable, and compliant batch processing operations that support critical business functions. The Control-M Engineer will collaborate with application, database, and infrastructure teams to troubleshoot issues, optimize workflows, and implement automation, contributing to operational excellence and continuous process improvement.
Software Requirements
Required Software Proficiency:
BMC Control-M (latest stable version) — proven experience in scheduling, monitoring, and managing batch jobs
Operating Systems: Windows Server, Linux/Unix — familiarity with environment-specific configurations and job executions
Scripting: Shell scripting, PowerShell — for job automation and troubleshooting
Database query tools: SQL management tools (SQL*Plus, SSMS, or equivalent) — for data verification and troubleshooting
Change Management/ITSM tools: ServiceNow, Jira or similar — for incident management and change controls
Preferred Software Skills:
Cloud platforms: AWS, Azure, or GCP — experience with cloud environments supporting Control-M workloads
Automation tools: Ansible, Jenkins — for deployment and job automation workflows
Monitoring and Alerting: Nagios, Grafana — for proactive system and job monitoring
Overall Responsibilities
Manage end-to-end batch job scheduling, execution, and monitoring using Control-M across multiple environments (Development, UAT, Production)
Develop and maintain automation workflows to optimize batch processing, reduce manual intervention, and improve efficiency
Troubleshoot and resolve job failures, delays, and performance issues promptly, ensuring minimal business impact
Collaborate with application, database, and infrastructure teams for issue diagnosis and resolution
Manage job dependencies, calendars, alerts, and conditions to ensure seamless operation across systems
Perform job migrations across environments, ensuring consistency, accuracy, and minimal downtime
Implement best practices for job scheduling, automation, and performance tuning
Maintain operational documentation, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and audit logs
Support production incident response and participate in shift/on-call support as needed
Technical Skills (By Category)
Scripting & Automation:
Essential: Shell scripting and PowerShell — for automation and troubleshooting
Preferred: Python or Perl — for advanced scripting and automation tasks
Control-M & Workflow Management:
Essential: Control-M (latest version), job creation, monitoring, and troubleshooting
Preferred: Control-M in cloud environments and integration with other automation tools
Databases & Data Management:
SQL skills for troubleshooting, data validation, and interface with backend data sources
Cloud Technologies:
Basic understanding of deploying or supporting Control-M workloads in cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
Monitoring & Alerting Tools:
Experience with Nagios, Grafana, or similar tools for systemic monitoring and alert configuration
Environment Management:
Experience working in Windows and Linux/Unix environments
Experience Requirements
3 to 5+ years of hands-on experience managing Control-M batch scheduling and workflows in enterprise environments
Proven ability to troubleshoot complex batch failures, optimize performance, and implement automation
Experience working in large-scale, multi-environment setups supporting critical business operations
Familiarity with cloud integration supporting Control-M workloads is a plus
Experience in financial services, banking, or trading environments is preferred
Day-to-Day Activities
Monitor daily batch processing activities, troubleshoot failures, and ensure timely completion of jobs
Develop and refine automation scripts to optimize batch workflows and reduce manual effort
Coordinate with application, database, and infrastructure teams to resolve technical issues
Perform batch job migrations, configurations, and environment setups
Conduct incident analysis, root cause investigations, and post-incident reviews
Update operational documentation, SOPs, and audit logs
Participate in shift support and scheduled maintenance activities
Continuously improve batch processing strategies based on performance metrics and industry best practices
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field
3+ years of experience in batch job management, Control-M administration, or production support
Certifications in Control-M or related automation tools advantageous
Strong understanding of ITSM processes, change management, and compliance in enterprise settings
