Project Electrical Engineer (Contract) Location: Chesapeake, VA (Hybrid: 4 days onsite / 1 remote)
Duration: June – December 2026 (Contract-to-Hire)
Schedule: 40 hours/week
 
Overview
Seeking a Project Electrical Engineer to support the design and development of complex electrical and control systems for advanced
underwater robotic and electromechanical platforms.This role supports U.S. Navy and Department of Defense programs and offers a mix of design,
integration, and hands-on engineering work. 
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead electrical system and subsystem design for complex engineering projects
  • Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, and system-level documentation
  • Translate high-level requirements into detailed engineering solutions
  • Collaborate with mechanical, software, and systems engineering teams
  • Support system integration, testing, and troubleshooting
  • Participate in design reviews and ensure quality and accuracy of deliverables
  • Mentor junior engineers and provide technical guidance as needed 

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
  • 7+ years of experience in electrical system design and development
  • Experience across full product lifecycle (design, integration, testing)
  • Strong knowledge of power systems, controls, and electrical components
  • Proficiency with CAD/design tools and electronic test equipment
  • U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain a DoD security clearance 

Desired Skills & Experience
  • Experience with underwater robotics, marine systems, or automation
  • Knowledge of communication protocols (Ethernet, CAN, RS-232/485, SPI, I2C)
  • Embedded systems and COTS integration experience
  • PCB design, motor controls, or fiber optics experience
  • Familiarity with industry standards (IEEE, MIL, NEC)
  • Hands-on experience with lab/test equipment (oscilloscopes, analyzers)
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (1–2 weeks as needed)
