Job description

This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced and passionate educator to shape pedagogy, develop staff, and ensure consistently high standards of student progress and achievement. We are looking for someone who can join our team.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching and Learning Leadership

  • Lead the strategic development of teaching and learning across the Primary phase, with a strong focus on pedagogy, student progress, and academic excellence.
  • Drive continuous improvement in classroom practice to ensure high-quality learning experiences for all students.
  • Promote innovative, research-informed, and evidence-based teaching approaches.
  • Foster student agency, engagement, and inclusive classroom practices that support diverse learning needs.
  • Drive initiatives to strengthen literacy, reading culture, and oracy across the Primary phase.

Assessment, Data and Achievement

  • Lead excellence in both internal and external assessment practices.
  • Monitor and improve the quality and consistency of assessment, feedback, and reporting across the school.
  • Use internal and external benchmarking data to inform instructional improvement and raise student achievement.
  • Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to monitor progress against school improvement targets and provide regular updates.

Curriculum Development and Quality Assurance

  • Ensure schemes of work, lesson plans, assessment frameworks, and curriculum documentation meet GEMS expectations and quality standards.
  • Conduct supportive lesson observations, learning walks, and instructional reviews to enhance teaching quality.
  • Review, proofread, and quality assure academic documents, reports, assessments, and communications to ensure accuracy, consistency, and alignment with school standards.
  • Identify, celebrate, and share best practices across the school to promote collaboration and continuous improvement.

Professional Development and Staff Support

  • Design, facilitate, and evaluate high-quality professional learning programs for teaching staff. 
  • Coach, mentor, and support teachers in developing reflective practice and innovative instructional strategies.
  • Lead teaching and learning workshops during staff development days and professional learning events.
  • Build strong professional relationships with staff, fostering a culture of trust, collaboration, ambition, and accountability.
  • Support teachers in developing outstanding teaching, learning, and assessment practices.

School Improvement and Inspection Readiness

  • Contribute to the development, implementation, and evaluation of school improvement priorities.
  • Lead internal review and inspection processes, including audits, action planning, reporting, and follow-up activities.
  • Contribute to school self-evaluation (SEF), school improvement planning (SIP), and overall inspection readiness.
  • Support strategic planning initiatives in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team.

Wider School Responsibilities

  • Model and actively promote the GEMS Core Values and Code of Conduct at all times.
  • Support the wider life of the school through duties, events, enrichment activities, and after-school programs.
  • Respect local culture, customs, and laws, maintaining the highest standards of professionalism, confidentiality, and integrity.
  • Undertake any additional duties reasonably delegated by the Principal, Vice Principal, or Head of Primary.
