Role Overview We are looking for a Senior Product Engineer to lead the design, delivery, and optimisation of cards platform capabilities across issuing and acquiring systems.
This role goes beyond execution — you will drive product engineering decisions, own end-to-end delivery, and influence the evolution of payment solutions in a high-scale banking environment.
You will work closely with business, architecture, and technology teams to build resilient, scalable, and compliant card services, ensuring high availability and seamless customer experience.
Key Responsibilities End-to-End Ownership: Own delivery of cards platform initiatives from requirement analysis to production rollout and post-release stability.
Product Engineering Leadership: Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions across cards issuing, acquiring, and payment processing systems.
Architecture & Design: Contribute to system design, integration architecture, and modernisation of cards platforms (APIs, microservices, event-driven systems).
Domain Expertise (Cards): Work on key areas including: Card issuing & lifecycle management Authorisation & transaction processing Tokenisation & digital wallets Scheme integrations (Visa / Mastercard) Clearing & settlement Stakeholder Management: Act as a bridge between business, vendors, and internal tech teams to ensure alignment and delivery excellence.
Agile Delivery: Lead and contribute within Agile squads, ensuring timely delivery, sprint planning, backlog grooming, and prioritisation.
Production Stability & Incident Management: Own L2/L3 support, incident resolution, RCA, and continuous improvement of platform reliability.
Quality & Testing Oversight: Ensure strong test coverage (functional, integration, UAT) and support automation initiatives.
Vendor & Integration Management: Work with third-party vendors and payment processors to deliver seamless integrations.
Required Skills & Experience 7+ years of experience in Cards & Payments domain within banking or financial services Strong understanding of: Cards issuing & acquiring platforms Payment flows, authorisation, clearing, settlement ISO 8583 messaging (must-have) Experience with card management systems (e.
g., PowerCARD, VisionPLUS, Prime, or similar) Solid understanding of APIs, microservices, and system integrations Experience working in Agile environments Preferred Skills Exposure to tokenisation, digital wallets (Apple Pay, Google Pay) Knowledge of PCI-DSS compliance and security standards Experience in high-volume, mission-critical systems
