As a Mechanical Engineer Lead specializing in Data Centres at Eaton, you will be a key technical expert in the design, development, and application of cooling infrastructure for hyperscale and enterprise data center projects using advanced engineering principles and data-driven methodologies. You will drive innovation in thermal management strategies, ensuring the highest standards of efficiency, reliability, and scalability for our clients leveraging technical expertise and statistical analysis tool. This role involves collaboration with cross-functional teams, clients, and consultants to deliver world-class solutions from concept to commissioning. 



What you’ll do:

  • Lead the design and development of innovative data center cooling solutions utilizing the full Eaton portfolio and third-party equipment through process engineering and continuous improvement techniques.
  • Provide technical engineering leadership in mechanical design aspects, including Whitespace design, chiller plants, Air Handling Units (AHUs), Fan Wall Units, and facility water systems.
  • Develop and implement advanced technical cooling strategies, including hot/cold aisle containment, air, liquid, and hybrid systems using validated engineering principles and continuous monitoring systems.
  • Research, evaluate, and design solutions using emerging technologies such as direct-to-chip liquid cooling and Cooling Distribution Units (CDUs).
  • Conduct and/or support Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis to optimize airflow and thermal performance, ensuring PUE (Power Usage Effectiveness) targets are met or exceeded.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineers and Business teams to ensure technical quality in quotations, interpret customer specifications, and ensure successful project execution and handover.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in client-facing meetings, building trusted relationships with engineering consultants, contractors, and end-users to promote Eaton solutions.
  • Produce high-quality technical documentation, specifications, and reports, ensuring all designs comply with relevant industry standards (e.g., ASHRAE, CIBSE, OCP).

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field (Master's preferred).
  • A minimum of 5–10+ years of relevant mechanical engineering experience, with at least 3-5 years specifically focused on data center or mission-critical projects.

Skills:
  • Chartered Engineer status or active progression towards chartership is highly desirable.
  • Deep technical knowledge of data center power and cooling architectures, including HVAC, chilled water systems, pumps, motors, and BMS (Building Management Systems) controls.
  • Experience with design and simulation tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, CFD tool experience highly desirable).
  • Effective communicator and team player with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Fluent in English.
