Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities – SARS Approved Safety Engineering and Risk Management
  • Develop, implement, and update project safety policies, risk assessments, and safety management systems to ensure SARS (South African Revenue Service) approval requirements are strictly met across all activities and locations.
  • Lead health and safety inspections, hazard identifications, and site audits, guaranteeing compliance with all legal, occupational, and client-specific safety regulations.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site supervisors, contractors, and relevant stakeholders to evaluate and mitigate workplace safety risks, regularly communicating safety protocols to teams.
  • Conduct thorough accident/incident investigations and root cause analyses, documenting findings and ensuring the prompt implementation of corrective/preventative actions.
  • Deliver SARS-compliant health and safety training, tool-box talks, and induction sessions to personnel at all levels, promoting a proactive safety culture.
  • Prepare and submit all necessary SARS safety compliance documentation, records, permits, and certifications in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Liaise with SARS auditors, regulatory authorities, and clients during safety reviews, promptly resolving queries and non-conformities.
  • Oversee hazardous materials management, ensuring their safe use, storage, transportation, and disposal according to policy and SARS guidelines.
  • Continuously monitor site activities, identifying emerging hazards or unsafe practices, and intervening appropriately to prevent incidents.
  • Stay updated on the latest regulatory developments, SARS safety requirements, and relevant legislation to ensure continuous compliance and standard setting.
Required Skills – SARS Safety Compliance, Hazard Prevention, and Risk Assessment
  • Thorough knowledge of SARS safety approval processes, occupational health and safety (OHS) standards, and incident investigation methods.
  • Proven ability to implement, maintain, and enhance health and safety management systems on complex project sites.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with confidence conveying safety requirements to a wide range of stakeholders and facilitating effective training sessions.
  • Critical attention to detail in hazard identification and risk evaluation, with a commitment to fostering a safety-first culture across the workforce.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, documentation, and stakeholder interactions in a high-paced environment.
  • Proactive and solution-focused approach to problem solving, capable of swiftly identifying and addressing safety issues.
Qualifications & Experience – SARS Approved Health and Safety Professional
  • Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum of3 years’ experience in an occupational health and safety engineering or site safety position, with proven SARS approval/registration.
  • Demonstrable experience with SARS safety documentation, audits, and compliance within construction, engineering, or industrial settings.
  • Knowledge of regional and international safety regulations, OHSAS/ISO standards, and best practices in safety management.
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office and digital safety management platforms or compliance software.
