Job Description:
Zayed Center for Health Sciences, United Arab Emirates University, invites applications for a Research Data Scientist to join the multidisciplinary team supporting the landmark prospective mother-and-child cohort study, the Mutaba'ah Study. The Mutaba'ah Study is the first and largest prospective mother-and-child cohort study in the United Arab Emirates. Established in 2017, the study follows more than 18,000 pregnancies and their children from pregnancy through infancy, childhood, and adolescence. The study provides a unique national platform for investigating the developmental origins of health and disease and generating evidence to improve maternal and child health policy and practice in the UAE and beyond. Position Overview The successful candidate will play a central role in the management, curation, integration, and analysis of large-scale epidemiological and healthcare datasets. The position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to a nationally significant research infrastructure while working closely with epidemiologists, clinicians, biostatisticians, public health researchers, and artificial intelligence specialists. The Data Scientist will support the development of high-quality research datasets and reproducible data workflows that underpin a broad portfolio of scientific projects in maternal, neonatal, child, and population health. Key Responsibilities Under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and the project Data Manager, the successful candidate will: Data Management and Infrastructure · Manage, maintain, and enhance large longitudinal research databases and data repositories. · Develop and implement robust data quality assurance and validation procedures. · Integrate and harmonize data from multiple sources, including electronic medical records, questionnaires, laboratory systems, and research databases. · Support the development and maintenance of the study data warehouse and research databank infrastructure. · Ensure compliance with data governance, privacy, confidentiality, and security requirements. Data Processing and Analytics· Perform data cleaning, transformation, validation, and preprocessing of large datasets. · Construct derived variables and analytical datasets according to predefined research protocols. · Develop reproducible workflows for data preparation and analysis. · Conduct descriptive analyses and generate reports, dashboards, tables, and visualizations. · Support advanced statistical, machine learning, and predictive modeling projects. Documentation and Research Support · Prepare and maintain data dictionaries, metadata repositories, data mapping documents, and standard operating procedures. · Support investigators, graduate students, and collaborators in accessing and utilizing study data. · Contribute to scientific outputs, including reports, conference presentations, and peer-reviewed publications. · Participate in multidisciplinary research meetings and project activities. Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in: · Data Science · Computer Science · Health Informatics · Bioinformatics · Statistics/Epidemiology · or a closely related discipline. · Demonstrated experience working with large datasets. · Strong understanding of database management principles. · Familiarity with healthcare or biomedical data environments. · Knowledge of medical terminology is essential.
Experience/Skills:
The ideal candidate will demonstrate: Technical Skills · Strong proficiency in Python and/or R. · Experience with SQL and relational database systems. · Working knowledge of Stata. · Experience with reproducible data analysis workflows. · Experience handling large and complex datasets. · Familiarity with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. · Knowledge of clinical coding systems (ICD-9, ICD-10, SNOMED, or equivalent). Preferred Qualifications:
· Master's degree in Data Science, Health Informatics, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, or a related field. · Experience working in academic, healthcare, public health, or epidemiological research settings. · Experience supporting large cohort studies, registries, or clinical databases. · Experience with machine learning or predictive analytics. · Evidence of participation in scientific publications or research projects.
