Responsibilities:
- Performs skilled and semi-skilled painting works, including preparation, painting, and finishing of interior and exterior hospital surfaces to ensure safety, cleanliness, and quality standards.
- Ensures compliance with hospital safety procedures, infection control requirements, and approved Facilities Management guidelines during all painting activities.
- Prepares surfaces by cleaning, sanding, filling, priming, and repairing minor defects prior to painting or finishing works.
- Applies paints, stains, varnishes, shading stains, and clear finishes to walls, ceilings, furniture, fixtures, and structural surfaces.
- Selects premixed paints or accurately mixes paints, thinners, and drying agents to achieve specified colours and finishes.
- Safely uses ladders, scaffolding, staging, and access equipment to carry out painting works in high or difficult-to-reach areas.
- Protects adjacent surfaces and relocates furniture and equipment as required to prevent damage during painting works.
- Completes assigned work orders and supports scheduling to ensure timely completion of painting activities.
- Works collaboratively with other maintenance trades such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and civil technicians.
- Maintains painting tools, equipment, and materials in good working condition and ensures proper housekeeping of work areas.
- Applies vinyl, wallpaper, and other wall coverings as required.
- Identifies and recommends improvements in materials, finishes, or techniques to enhance durability and efficiency.
- Implements sustainable practices and environmentally responsible methods in Facilities Management operations where applicable.
Qualifications:
- Industrial Training Certificate or
- 10 years School Certificate with a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the painting trade.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience in a healthcare organisation’s maintenance department or similar institution.
- Knowledge of commercial and institutional painting techniques and surface preparation methods.
- Knowledge of painting materials, tools, finishes, and application processes.
- Knowledge of basic safety procedures and infection control requirements in healthcare environments.
- Knowledge of Joint Commission International Accreditation (JCIA) standards related to facilities and environment of care.
- Skills in surface preparation, painting, polishing, and finishing work.
- Skills in colour matching and paint mixing.
- Skills in using painting tools and equipment such as brushes, rollers, sprayers, and caulking guns.
- Skills in following work instructions, drawings, and maintenance schedules.
- Ability to read and write English.
- Ability to read and interpret basic engineering or maintenance drawings.
- Ability to work at heights using ladders and scaffolding with appropriate balance and coordination.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary facilities team.
