Job Purpose

The High School Boys Guidance Counsellor supports the academic, social-emotional, behavioral, and college/career development of male students. The role focuses on helping students navigate adolescence, make informed decisions, and prepare for post-secondary pathways within an American curriculum framework.

Key Accountabilities

§  Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.

§  Establish procedures and time frames to provide students with academic, personal, social and psychological counseling.

§  Work with new students to ensure a smooth adjustment to the school.

§  Listen to students’ concerns about academic, emotional or social problems

§  Help students process their problems and plan goals and action

§  Mediate conflict between students and teachers

§  Improve parent/teacher relationships

§  Facilitate drug and alcohol prevention programs

§  Organize peer counseling programs

§  Refer students to psychologists and other mental health resources

§  Work on academic boards to improve learning conditions

§  Provide individual and group counseling sessions addressing academic, social, emotional, and behavioral concerns

§  Support students in managing stress, peer relationships, and personal challenges

§  Promote mental health awareness and resilience among students

§  Maintain confidentiality and follow safeguarding protocols
