GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is seeking to appoint an outstanding Head of Year (Prep School) from August 2026. The successful candidate will lead a year group, ensuring high-quality teaching, strong pupil outcomes and a positive, supportive environment where all pupils can thrive.

 

Job Purpose:

The Head of Year provides leadership across the year group, working closely with teachers and the Pupil Wellbeing Team to ensure high standards of teaching, learning and pastoral care. The role also includes supporting staff development and contributing to whole-school improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead teaching and learning across the year group, ensuring high standards and consistency.
  • Monitor pupil progress, behaviour and attendance, implementing support where needed.
  • Coach and support teachers to improve classroom practice.
  • Promote a positive culture of wellbeing, behaviour and achievement.
  • Work closely with parents to support pupil progress and development.
  • Lead year group meetings, planning and key events.
  • Support safeguarding and pupil wellbeing across the year group.
  • Contribute to transition, admissions and induction processes.
  • Plan and oversee trips, enrichment and year group activities.
  • Support staff performance management and professional development.
  • Contribute to whole-school initiatives and school improvement planning.
