Job Description

The Engineer - Systems Assurance will ensure civil works for rail infrastructure comply with systems assurance principles, including safety, reliability, availability, and maintainability (RAMS) throughout the project lifecycle. Candidates must have prior experience working on similar rail, systems integration, or major infrastructure projects.


Role Responsibilities:


  • Implement and manage assurance processes in line with railway standards
  • Develop and maintain the Systems Assurance Plan covering design, construction, testing, and commissioning phases
  • Ensure full requirements traceability from employer requirements through design, construction, and final handover
  • Review civil design submissions to ensure compliance with safety-in-design and operational safety requirements for rail systems
  • Coordinate closely with track, signaling, MEP, utilities, and systems teams to manage civil interface requirements
  • Conduct and support hazard identification (HAZID), risk assessments, and safety analysis for civil railway assets (stations, viaducts, tunnels, trackworks)
  • Ensure implementation of Verification & Validation (V&V) processes for all civil deliverables and construction activities
  • Monitor compliance with railway authority standards
  • Review Method Statements, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and assurance deliverables for compliance with system safety requirements
  • Participate in design and construction safety audits, assurance audits, and site surveillance activities
  • Track and close out safety-related non-conformances, audit findings, and assurance observations
  • Ensure proper management of design changes through configuration control and impact assessment on safety and performance
  • Support integration of civil works with railway systems during testing, integration, and commissioning stages
  • Verify that construction activities do not compromise operational safety, track geometry stability, or long-term durability
  • Ensure implementation of risk mitigation measures identified during safety and assurance studies
  • Support incident investigation and root cause analysis for civil-related safety or quality issues
  • Maintain assurance registers including risk logs, compliance matrices, and traceability records
  • Assist in preparation of safety cases, assurance evidence, and certification dossiers for handover to the client
  • Coordinate with contractors, consultants, and client representatives to ensure assurance requirements are clearly understood and implemented on site
  • Contribute to final system acceptance, operational readiness reviews, and handover of civil railway assets

Minimum Requirements: 


Minimum 8–12 years of experience in railway infrastructure, systems assurance, safety engineering, or major multidisciplinary infrastructure projects is required.



Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Professional certifications in railway systems assurance, RAMS, or safety engineering (e.g., IRSE, CSM-RA or equivalent) will be an advantage.
