Job description

Data Engineer
A leading banking organisation is seeking an experienced Data Engineer to join its data function. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and maintaining robust ETL pipelines while supporting Business Intelligence development across the enterprise. Working within a team of 7–8 data professionals, this role plays a critical part in ensuring reliable, high-quality data flows that underpin key business and regulatory reporting.
Responsibilities:
  • Design, develop, and maintain ETL pipelines using SSIS or SAS Enterprise Guide (SAS EG preferred) to support data ingestion, transformation, and loading across the data warehouse environment.
  • Extract and process data from multiple source systems into Microsoft SQL Server, ensuring data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.
  • Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimise ETL workflows to maintain high performance, reliability, and data quality standards.
  • Implement error handling, logging, and data validation mechanisms within ETL processes.
  • Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports, translating business requirements into clear and actionable data visualisations.
  • Connect Power BI to SQL Server and cloud data sources, applying best practices in DAX, Power Query, and data modelling.
  • Manage and maintain data pipelines and assets on cloud platforms including AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
  • Collaborate with data architects, business analysts, and stakeholders to deliver scalable, fit-for-purpose data solutions.
  • Ensure adherence to data governance, security, and compliance standards, particularly within a regulated banking environment.
  • Document ETL workflows, data models, and technical specifications to support knowledge sharing and auditability.
  • Contribute to sprint planning, peer code reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives within the data team.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Minimum 4+ years of experience in a Data Engineering, ETL Developer, or similar data role.
  • Hands-on experience with ETL tools, specifically SSIS or SAS Enterprise Guide (SAS EG preferred).
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Power BI including DAX, Power Query, and report/dashboard development.
  • Solid experience with Microsoft SQL Server for data hosting, warehousing, and complex query development.
  • Demonstrated experience with cloud platforms — AWS and/or Microsoft Azure.
  • Strong SQL skills including stored procedures, query optimisation, and performance tuning.
  • Understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modelling, and ETL best practices.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment on enterprise-scale data projects.
  • Banking or financial services experience is preferred; familiarity with regulatory and compliance data requirements is an advantage.
  • Relevant cloud or BI certifications (e.g. Microsoft PL-300, AWS or Azure data certifications) are advantageous.
