The Consultant Pediatric Vascular Surgeon will provide highly specialized surgical care for infants, children, and adolescents with congenital and acquired vascular disorders. The role involves advanced diagnostic evaluation, operative and endovascular management, and multidisciplinary collaboration, in strict compliance with Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DOH) Professional Qualification Requirements (PQR).
Deliver consultant-level care in pediatric vascular surgery.
Independently assess, diagnose, and manage pediatric vascular conditions, including:
Congenital vascular malformations (arterial, venous, lymphatic)
Hemangiomas and complex vascular tumors
Pediatric peripheral vascular disease
Vascular trauma in children
Access surgery for pediatric patients (as applicable)
Perform complex open and endovascular vascular procedures appropriate to pediatric patients.
Lead pre-operative planning, surgical intervention, and post-operative care.
Provide emergency and on-call vascular services as per hospital rota.
Offer expert consultations and second opinions.
Work closely with:
Pediatric surgery
Interventional radiology
Pediatric plastic surgery
Dermatology
Oncology
Neonatology and pediatrics
Participate in vascular anomaly and MDT meetings.
Supervise and mentor residents, fellows, and junior consultants.
Participate in teaching, clinical audits, and quality improvement initiatives.
Engage in clinical research and service development where applicable.
Ensure compliance with:
DOH PQR standards
Hospital clinical governance policies
Patient safety, infection control, and ethical standards
Maintain accurate and compliant clinical documentation and coding practices.
MBBS or equivalent medical degree from a recognized institution.
Recognized Specialty Qualification in Vascular Surgery or General Surgery with Vascular Surgery certification, such as:
American Board of Surgery + Vascular Surgery subspecialty
UK CCT in Vascular Surgery
Canadian Board or equivalent (DOH-recognized)
Irish Board
Australian Board
Formal fellowship training in Pediatric Vascular Surgery from an accredited institution (mandatory).
Minimum 5 years post-specialty experience in a recognized tertiary pediatric or vascular center.
Demonstrated independent practice in pediatric vascular surgery.
Eligible for or holding a DOH (Abu Dhabi) Consultant License with Pediatric Vascular Surgery scope of practice.
Advanced expertise in pediatric vascular and endovascular techniques.
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication skills with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
Commitment to evidence-based practice and continuous professional development.
Leadership skills suitable for a tertiary referral center.
