The Chief Engineer on a dredger is responsible for overall management of all engine room and technical operations onboard. To ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of main propulsion systems, dredging equipment, and all auxiliary machinery. To plan and implement preventive and corrective maintenance schedules in line with company policies and class requirements. To lead, supervise, and manage the engineering team, ensuring high standards of performance and discipline. To monitor machinery performance and take proactive measures to avoid breakdowns and operational delays. To ensure compliance with safety, environmental, and statutory regulations at all times. To manage inventory of spare parts, fuel, lubricants, and technical consumables effectively. To coordinate with the Master, shore management, and project team for operational requirements and technical support. To prepare and maintain technical reports, maintenance records, and budget forecasts. To oversee bunkering operations and ensure proper fuel management and control. To handle emergency situations, major breakdowns, and critical repairs efficiently. To lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and implementation of long-term solutions. To ensure proper training, development, and appraisal of engine room personnel. To maintain high standards of housekeeping and safety within the engine room and workshop areas. To supervise dry docking, major overhauls, and inspections. To ensure optimal utilization of resources to enhance dredger productivity and cost efficiency. Strong leadership, technical expertise, and decision-making skills are essential for this role.
Bachelor's degree in marine/mechanical engineering
Minimum 5 years rank experience onboard Dredger.
Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer.
