Job description

The Cast Technician supports Orthopedic Surgeons in outpatient, inpatient, and operating room settings by applying, changing, and removing casts and traction devices while ensuring patient safety and comfort. The role involves monitoring patients, reporting changes in condition to nursing staff, maintaining accurate electronic documentation, and educating patients and families. The Cast Technician maintains a clean and safe clinical environment, manages departmental inventory, complies with SEHA, DOH, and organizational policies, and participates in quality improvement, mandatory training, and continuing professional development.

Responsibilities:

Assists the Orthopedic Surgeons with orthopedic outpatient procedures as well as inpatients and operating room.
Applies and changes cast and applies various traction devices as directed.
Reports any significant changes in the patient’s condition to a registered nurse-RN immediately.
Responsible for documentation and participation in the use of information technology and relevant electronic medical records.
Facilitate effective communication between the patient, family, and the interdisciplinary health care team as required.
Maintains the departmental inventory of necessary materials and supplies.
Ensures provision of a clean and safe working environment that minimizes risks to the patient, visitors, and staff. Provides health education, relevant to the clinical condition, and is documented in the patient health record.
