Job Summary:


The Painter – Automotive is responsible for surface preparation, priming, and painting of vehicles and body parts in accordance with manufacturer standards and company procedures. The Painter ensures high-quality paint finishes and contributes to the overall aesthetic and value restoration of vehicles.


AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES


Surface Preparation:


  • Clean, sand, mask, and prime vehicle surfaces to prepare for painting.


  • Repair minor scratches, dents, or blemishes as required before painting.


Paint Mixing & Application:


  • Mix paint to match original vehicle colors using computerized color matching systems.


  • Apply primer, basecoat, and clearcoat using spray guns or other approved tools.


Quality Finishing:


  • Ensure smooth, even finishes with proper drying and curing times.


  • Inspect painted surfaces for flaws and correct as needed (e.g., runs, sags, uneven textures).


Equipment & Booth Maintenance:


  • Operate and maintain spray booths, tools, and safety equipment.


  • Clean and service painting equipment regularly to ensure optimal performance.


Safety & Compliance:


  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental regulations regarding the use of chemicals and equipment.


  • Use PPE and handle hazardous materials in line with workshop policies.


Documentation & Reporting:


  • Record paint usage, color codes, and job completion details accurately.


  • Report damaged parts or materials shortages to supervisors.


Collaboration & Support:


Work closely with panel beaters, body shop estimators, and workshop team members. · Support team in completing full body repair and refinishing processes.



To be a successful Automotive Painter, you should demonstrate strong surface preparation skills, precision in paint application, and a commitment to quality and safety standards.


Mandatory & Preferred Requirements


  • 2–4 years of experience in automotive painting or refinishing


  • Knowledge of automotive paint systems (solvent-based and water-based)


  • Experience in paint mixing, color matching, and spray application


  • Familiarity with polishing and buffing for final finishing


  • Basic understanding of vehicle systems and repair tools


  • Willingness to learn and follow workshop instructions
