Job Summary
The AC Technician is responsible for installing, servicing, troubleshooting, and repairing air conditioning systems and related HVAC equipment. The technician ensures systems operate at peak performance, follows safety procedures, and provides timely maintenance and repair support for residential, commercial, or industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
Install, inspect, maintain, and repair air conditioning units, HVAC systems, and refrigeration equipment
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigerant-related issues
Perform routine preventive maintenance, including cleaning coils, checking filters, and testing system performance
Recharge refrigerants and check for leaks
Repair or replace defective components such as compressors, motors, fans, thermostats, and electrical controls
Read and interpret technical manuals, wiring diagrams, and blueprints
Test system functionality after repairs or installation
Maintain accurate service records and work orders
Ensure compliance with safety standards, building codes, and environmental regulations
Communicate with clients or supervisors about system issues, recommended repairs, and completed work
Respond to emergency breakdowns and service calls as needed
Required Skills and Qualifications
Knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration cycles, and AC components
Ability to troubleshoot mechanical and electrical problems
Familiarity with hand tools, gauges, meters, and diagnostic equipment
Understanding of safety procedures and refrigerant handling
Good communication and customer service skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Physical stamina to lift equipment, work in confined spaces, and perform manual tasks
