Responsibilities:

The 2nd Engineer is responsible for managing the day-to-day engine room operations and assisting the Chief Engineer in ensuring safe, efficient, and uninterrupted dredging operations onboard the vessel. The role includes supervision of engine room personnel, maintenance planning, and operation of all mechanical and hydraulic systems onboard.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Supervise daily operation and maintenance of main engines, generators, pumps, compressors, and auxiliary machinery.
  • Plan and execute preventive and corrective maintenance as per Planned Maintenance System (PMS).
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical faults onboard.
  • Oversee maintenance and operation of dredging equipment including dredge pumps, winches, hydraulic systems, and pipelines.
  • Monitor machinery performance, fuel consumption, lubrication, and cooling systems.
  • Supervise engine room crew and ensure safe working practices are followed at all times.
  • Maintain engine room logs, maintenance records, spare parts inventory, and technical reports.
  • Assist Chief Engineer during dry docking, machinery overhauls, inspections, and audits.
  • Ensure compliance with ISM, MARPOL, SOLAS, Class, and Flag State requirements.
  • Conduct toolbox talks, emergency drills, and support vessel emergency response activities.
  • Coordinate with deck department to support safe and efficient dredging operations.
  • Ensure proper housekeeping, safety, and environmental standards in engine room areas.

Qualifications:

Certificate of Competency (COC) as 2nd Engineer.


5 Years' experience onboard dredgers.
