Responsibilities:

The 1st Watchkeeping Engineer on a dredger is responsible for monitoring and operating all engine room machinery during assigned watches. To ensure safe and efficient functioning of main engines, generators, pumps, and auxiliary systems. The role involves maintaining continuous watchkeeping as per company and maritime regulations. To promptly detect and respond to machinery alarms, faults, and abnormal conditions. To carry out routine inspections, readings, and performance monitoring of all equipment. To assist in preventive and corrective maintenance as directed by the Chief Engineer. To maintain proper logbooks, checklists, and engine room records. To ensure compliance with safety procedures, permit-to-work systems, and environmental regulations. To support fuel management, lubrication, and energy efficiency measures. To coordinate with deck and dredging teams for smooth operations. To handle emergency situations such as breakdowns, fire, or flooding in the engine room. To ensure cleanliness and good housekeeping standards in machinery spaces. To supervise and guide junior engineers and engine crew during watch. To participate in bunkering operations and monitor fuel transfer activities. To assist in troubleshooting and minor repairs during operations. To support dry docking and major maintenance activities when required. Strong technical knowledge, alertness, and teamwork are essential for effective watchkeeping duties.



Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in marine/mechanical Engineering.


Minimum 10 years' experience on Marine vessels preferably on Dredgers.


Certificate of Competency as Chief Engineer or 2nd Engineer.
