The British Council is seeking a highly motivated Part-Time Teacher to deliver engaging and high-quality English language teaching, contributing to a rewarding and stimulating learning experience. The role supports the organisation’s global English strategy and its mission to build cultural relations through education.



Key Responsibilities

Teaching



  • Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality English lessons tailored to diverse learners and learning styles
  • Ensure teaching meets British Council Global Teaching Standards and learner expectations
  • Monitor student progress and provide constructive feedback to support achievement and learner autonomy
  • Engage in continuous professional development and uphold excellence in ELT practices

Teaching Centre Activities



  • Contribute to teaching centre initiatives, course development, and materials evaluation
  • Participate actively in team meetings and collaborative activities
  • Support marketing and promotional activities and deliver excellent customer service
  • Complete all teaching-related administrative duties to required standards

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement



  • Build positive relationships with students and colleagues
  • Promote awareness of the British Council’s cultural relations mission
  • Encourage intercultural learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom

Compliance & Standards



  • Adhere to policies on Safeguarding, Data Protection, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI), Special Educational Needs, and Health & Safety
  • Ensure inclusive teaching practices that reflect EDI principles
Essential Requirements

Qualifications



  • Undergraduate degree
  • Cambridge CELTA or Trinity Cert TESOL (minimum global standard)

Language Proficiency



  • English proficiency at C1 minimum
  • Evidence required: IELTS Band 8+ or Cambridge CAE Pass

Experience



  • Demonstrated teaching experience aligned with British Council Teaching Standards at CORE level
  • TEFL qualification (e.g. CELTA or equivalent)
  • Experience across multiple age groups with minimum teaching hours:
    • Primary (6–10): 400+ hours
    • Lower Secondary (11–14): 800+ hours
    • Upper Secondary (15–17): 400+ hours
    • University/Vocational (18–25): 400+ hours
    • Adults (18+): 800+ hours

  • Strong subject knowledge

  • Effective lesson planning and delivery
  • Skilled in assessment and feedback
  • Ability to create an inclusive learning environment
  • Professionalism and adherence to organisational values
Desirable
  • DELTA or Trinity Diploma (EFL)
  • Experience teaching Early Years (ages 2–5, 400+ hours)
Additional Requirements
  • Ability to teach at the main British Council centre and partner schools (ISC Carthage and Menzah)
  • Right to live and work in the country of employment
  • Willingness to undergo annual background checks as part of employment
