Job description

Location: Geneva, Switzerland

Start date: Aug -26

Report to: Heads of House

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

House Parents are at the heart of our boarding community, combining warmth, flexibility, and initiative to foster a nurturing and inspiring environment. They are mentors, role models, and leaders who ensure students feel secure and supported while embracing opportunities for personal growth.

This dynamic role requires a proactive and positive approach, as House Parents lead by example—whether through participating in activities, encouraging students to discover their passions, or helping manage day-to-day operations of the boarding house. By setting the standard in enthusiasm and resilience, House Parents inspire students to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Pastoral Care: Act “in loco parentis” to ensure students’ emotional, social, and physical well-being. Collaborate with the Counselling team and Health Centre to address individual needs. Staying overnight in the boarding House when on duty is an expectation.
  • Academic Tracking: Monitor students’ academic progress, providing guidance and support to help them achieve their goals. Liaise with teachers to address concerns and celebrate achievements.
  • Community Leadership: Encourage teamwork, respect, and responsibility among boarders, instilling core values and promoting a positive house culture.
  • Activity Involvement: Actively engage in student activities to lead by example, inspiring students to pursue their interests and develop a balanced, passionate approach to life.

  • Operational Support: Oversee daily logistics such as dining supervision, weekend activities, and occasional transportation, including driving students when required.
  • Communication: Maintain regular and open communication with parents, providing updates on their child’s well-being, academic progress, and personal development.
  • Crisis Management: Respond to maintenance issues, medical emergencies, or missing students using established protocols.
  • Administrative Duties: Maintain accurate records and ensure all administrative tasks are handled efficiently for the smooth running of the House.
  • Role Modeling: Exhibit empathy, patience, and cultural sensitivity to help students from diverse backgrounds integrate and thrive.

SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

  • Previous experience working with children or young people.

  • A proactive and positive mindset, demonstrating resilience and adaptability in a dynamic environment.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage administrative tasks and maintain accurate records.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills in English. Knowledge of French is a significant asset, as it facilitates communication in a bilingual environment.

  • A genuine enthusiasm for boarding life, including leading and participating in student activities.

  • A collaborative spirit and ability to build meaningful relationships within a diverse team and student body.

  • A valid driving license, as occasional transportation of students is expected.

  • A proactive attitude toward personal and professional development.

WHY JOIN US?

Be part of a vibrant international community in a stunning location.

Enjoy access to a wide range of professional development opportunities and cultural activities.

Benefit from on-campus accommodation and amenities.

Make a lasting impact on students’ lives while advancing your career in an environment that values positivity, initiative, and care.

TERMS AND CONDITION

As a Full-time House Parent you will get one day off per week and one weekend every other week. Accommodation and meals in a Boarding House will be provided when on duty. You need to have your own accommodation for your days off.

Please note that applications are open to European citizens or holders of a Swiss work permit.

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION

It is important that the post holder is always aware of Child Protection guidelines and observes a professional distance from students whilst still developing effective working and caring relationships.

You understand and embrace the importance of diversity and inclusion and stand against discrimination in any form. Background investigations and reference checks for the past ten years will be conducted during the selection process.
