Job description

Supervise, coordinate, and monitor structural welding activities within the Curved Block Assembly Department, including equipment selection, permit validation, and adherence to welding codes and drawings and workforce performance to ensure the efficient, safe, and high-quality installation of outfitting components on marine structures and vessels, in alignment with project specifications, timelines, and IMI Management System standards.


• Supervise and execute all assigned welding tasks safely and within scheduled timelines.


• Adhere full compliance with technical drawings, welding procedures, and applicable codes.


• Select appropriate welding equipment and methods based on job specifications and material requirements.


• Secure valid work permits (Hot, Cold, Isolation, etc.) prior to initiating any welding activity.


• Perform welding operations in accordance with approved standards and project requirements.


• Monitor material usage to identify potential shortages and initiate timely corrective actions.


• Inspect completed welds and verify they meet IMI quality standards and specifications.


• Participate in daily toolbox meetings and proactively address job-related risks.


• Promote safety awareness and compliance among welding technicians.


• Demonstrate full adherence to Health, Safety, Environmental, and Security (HSES) regulations and procedures.


• Inspect and maintain welding tools and equipment before and during use to ensure safe and efficient operation.


• Train and mentor reporting staff and workers to build technical competencies and ensure adherence to best practices.


• Report progress, delays, and resource need to project managers and senior leadership.


• Support continuous improvement in equipment condition and resource utilization.


Education: High School or equivalent qualification or technical certifications or vocational training in welding processes (preferred).


Experience: At least 15 years’ experience in Offshore Shipyard/Ship repair Industry.


Professional Qualifications:  Welding certificates (2G, 3G, 4G)


Competency: • Ability to perform manual welding (2G, 3G, 4G), semi-automatic welding and automatic welding.


• Knowledge of GMAW, GTAW, EGW, SAW, and auto carriage welding.


• Knowledge of welding machine functions and theory.


• Ability to read and understand ship design drawings.


• Knowledge of relevant safety standards and protective equipment use.


• Cooperate with other departments, including production planning and quality control, to ensure smooth workflow and timely project completion.


• Ability to use basic computer operating systems.


• Ability to identify areas for skill improvement and provide coaching as needed.


• Ability to create accurate documentation, including inspection reports and project progress reports.


• Implement safety protocols and practices to ensure a safe work environment for all team members.


• Excellent technical knowledge and problem-solving skills (including the ability to resolve fitting-related issues).


• Ability to demonstrate attention to detail and a commitment to quality control and assurance. • Leadership capabilities as a site manager
