Overview

AtkinsRéalis is seeking an experienced Programme Director to provide executive leadership, governance oversight, and strategic delivery management across a large-scale rail infrastructure and systems programme. The role will lead multidisciplinary engineering, construction, commercial, systems integration, and operational teams through planning, delivery, testing, commissioning, stakeholder coordination, and operational readiness activities in alignment with programme objectives, quality requirements, and regulatory obligations.


Your role
  • Lead overall programme governance, delivery strategy, and executive-level decision-making across all workstreams.
  • Direct multidisciplinary engineering, construction, commercial, systems integration, and operational teams to ensure programme objectives are achieved.
  • Establish programme management frameworks, reporting systems, and assurance processes aligned with industry best practice.
  • Manage strategic stakeholder engagement with client representatives, government authorities, contractors, operators, and third parties.
  • Oversee programme-wide risk, change control, schedule recovery, and commercial performance management.
  • Ensure testing, commissioning, handover, and operational readiness activities are integrated into programme delivery.
  • Drive compliance with safety, quality, environmental, and regulatory obligations throughout programme execution.
  • Mentor senior leadership teams and promote a high-performance delivery culture focused on accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
About you
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related discipline; Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum 20 years’ professional experience with at least 12 years in senior programme or project director roles.
  • Extensive experience on major rail, infrastructure, transportation, or industrial programmes.
  • Strong understanding of programme controls, systems integration, interface management, and operational readiness.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within complex stakeholder environments.
  • Strong commercial, contractual, and risk management capability.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and executive reporting skills.
  • Professional membership or chartership preferred (PMP, APM, PE, CEng, or equivalent).
