Job description

The Fitter, Mechanical is responsible for performing activities related to the Mechanical onboard jobs for ships/rigs or other related mechanical activities. Perform all related activities onboard, jobs, and other areas where related work is ongoing and ensure that works are carried out safely and on time, according to project contractual obligations. The Fitter, Mechanical is responsible for following the Mechanical Foreman for delivering the work safely, on time, to the client’s satisfaction and in accordance with the project contractual obligations and International Maritime Industries Management System (IMIMS). This role involves working closely with Onboard Mechanical Foreman. Ensures efficiency and proper housekeeping onboard.


• Adhere to reinforce, and promote IMI Health, Safety, Environment and Quality Policies.


• Ensure that all mechanical activities onboard are meticulously followed and executed.


• Receive and follow the instructions from the Onboard Mechanical foreman regarding priority of the works.


• Ensure all repairs and maintenance work meets required quality standards and regulatory requirements.


• Ensure effective and consistent interaction with Onboard Mechanical foreman as required.


• Ensure to follow the Mechanical onboard foreman for all installation, maintenance and commissioning activities are carried out in accordance with approved procedures.


• Perform other relevant tasks as requested by the Foreman.


Education: Diploma along with proven experience in this field or preferred completion of a technical secondary school is mandatory.


Competency: • In- depth understanding of mechanical jobs and best practices related to ships & rigs.


• Familiarity with mechanical jobs such as deck machinery, winches, cranes, basic hydraulic jobs, pumps, valves, heat exchangers and other mechanical & rotating components.


• Overhauling working methods and processes


• Dealing with a multi-cultural environment


• Sound knowledge on tools/equipment’s and consumables.


• Physically fit and able to work in extreme climatic conditions.


Experience: At least 5 years’ experience in reputable large shipyards, with proven,  hands on and in-depth knowledge in general mechanical jobs.
