Job description

WSP is providing Project Management Services (PMS) for one of Riyadh’s signature urban development initiatives — a large-scale public realm and infrastructure project that integrates landscape, utilities, buildings, and mobility systems. The development is designed to set new standards in sustainability, livability, and environmental excellence.

The Material Engineer will be responsible for overseeing all materials-related activities on the project, including the review, approval, and inspection of construction materials used across multiple work packages. The role ensures that all materials conform to project specifications, quality requirements, and relevant codes and standards.

Responsibilities:
  • Review and approve materials submittals, data sheets, and samples in accordance with project specifications.
  • Conduct inspections and testing of materials delivered to site to ensure compliance with approved standards.
  • Coordinate with design, QA/QC, and construction teams to resolve material-related issues.
  • Liaise with third-party laboratories for testing and certification of materials.
  • Monitor contractor material procurement schedules to ensure timely availability of approved materials.
  • Maintain updated material registers and documentation records.
  • Ensure all materials meet sustainability, environmental, and health standards as required by the project.
  • Participate in site audits and quality control reviews to verify adherence to material specifications.
  • Provide technical input on material selection and substitutions when required.
  • Support the Construction and QA/QC Managers in enforcing compliance and quality assurance procedures.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, including at least 5 years on large-scale infrastructure or public realm projects within a PMC or consultancy environment.
  • Strong understanding of material testing methods, standards (ASTM, BS, SASO, etc.), and quality control procedures.
  • Experience with concrete, asphalt, aggregates, steel, and finishing materials.
  • Excellent knowledge of quality documentation, testing procedures, and material approval workflows.
  • Good coordination and communication skills for interfacing with contractors, consultants, and the client team.
  • Membership in a professional engineering body is an advantage.
