Job description

The Manufacturing Engineer position can occur in Process, Production or Technology.
The Manufacturing Engineer - Process is responsible for providing innovative and cost effective processes and solutions required to manufacture products. This includes the design and development of new and improved manufacturing techniques, processes and procedures. He/she develops, maintains, and continuously improves manufacturing processes and techniques using LEAN. He/she develops standards and establishes implementation plans, including training plans for shop floor personnel, and production metrics. He/she collaborates with Engineering and Manufacturing Technology to ensure that processes are created and developed for new products and that return-on-experience is captured for existing processes.
The Manufacturing Engineer - Production performs the lead role in the implementation of manufacturing processes and techniques - and the implementation of LEAN and use of Six Sigma tools. He/she is the owner of their respective manufacturing processes and standards and enforces implementation by training shop floor personnel, implementing and monitoring metrics, and oversight. He/she is responsible to solve complex manufacturing problems and take an active role in troubleshooting quality and production yield related issues within manufacturing. The Manufacturing Engineer - Technology is responsible for finding, investigating, and/or creating new, next generation, innovative and cost effective technology solutions required to manufacture existing and new products. This includes the creation and development of a manufacturing technology roadmap for new and existing product technologies. For new technologies, he/she takes processes from the concept phase all the way to successful implementation.

For Manufacturing Engineer - Production:
  • Lean Six Sigma.
  • Responsible for the implementation of key elements of Lean, such as: standardized work instructions, line balancing, layout and work sequence (routing) optimization, training development matrix, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen/5S workouts, pull processes, TPM (total preventive maintenance), cell design, and quick changeover/batch-size optimization.
  • Processes.
  • Implement process improvements to achieve manufacturing excellence in areas such as process yield (e.g. First Pass Yield, Rolled Throughput Yield), cycle time reduction and productivity.
  • Provide shop floor feedback on product design and manufacturability issues to Engineering and DFMs (e.g. through the use of Engineering Change Requests - ECRs).
  • Review and sign-off on Engineering Change Orders that impact Inventory - including product life cycle issues, obsolescence, etc.
  • Creates, implements, and monitors key performance indicators and metrics on manufacturing process capability and product quality.
  • Monitoring and reducing process costs.
  • Quality.
  • Responsible to assist with investigation, root cause analysis and corrective action implementation for manufacturing quality issues.
For Manufacturing Engineer - Technology:
  • Lean Six Sigma.
  • Responsible to ensure that new processes are established using Lean concepts, such as: standardized work instructions, line balancing, layout and work sequence (routing) optimization, training development matrix, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen/5S workouts, pull processes, TPM (total preventive maintenance), cell design, and quick changeover/batch-size optimization.
  • Also responsible for driving continuous improvement projects on manufacturing processes.
  • Processes.
  • Evaluates and benchmarks best-in-class manufacturing techniques for Schlumberger and OEM products.
  • Establishes pilot testing and scale up plan for manufacturing technology implementation.
  • Works with Manufacturing and Engineering Métiers and other stakeholders during prove-out testing of processes. * Supports the Manufacturing Engineer (DFM) on any specific technology issues/constraints for NPD and RR projects.
  • Coordinates with Manufacturing Métiers and other resources across the company to share and leverage best practices.
  • Quality.
  • Responsible for ensuring that manufacturing technology solutions achieve the required quality levels, reliability and consistency.
