Job description

JOB PURPOSE / OBJECTIVE:


The job of the General Manager, Field Production is to lead and oversee the field production operations, including hull construction, outfitting, pre-blasting and painting, painting, machinery installation, and commissioning. The General Manager is responsible for ensuring the successful execution of shipbuilding projects, meeting quality and safety standards, optimizing resource utilization, and delivering projects on time and within budget.


KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:


1. Post Painting:


  • Supervise the post painting processes, ensuring the proper surface preparation and application of protective coatings on the ship's hull and structures. 
  • Implement quality control measures to verify the adhesion, thickness, and finish of the applied coatings. 
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and safety procedures related to surface preparation and painting activities. 

2. Machinery Installation:


  •  Oversee the installation of machinery and equipment, including propulsion systems, auxiliary systems, and onboard machinery. 
  • Collaborate with engineering and technical teams to ensure accurate alignment, integration, and testing of machinery components.
  •  Ensure compliance with technical specifications, safety standards, and operational requirements during machinery installation. 

3. Commissioning:


  • Manage the commissioning phase of shipbuilding projects, which involves testing, trials, and systems integration to ensure proper functioning and performance of all ship systems. 
  • Coordinate with classification societies, regulatory bodies, and client representatives to facilitate  inspections and certifications. 
  • Oversee sea trials and performance tests to validate the ship's operational capabilities and compliance with contractual requirements. 

4. Scaffolding


  • Manage the scaffolding processes, ensuring safety and proper scaffolding installation for hull construction, outfitting, and post-painting activities. 
  • Plan, install, inspect, modify, and dismantle scaffolding in compliance with safety standards and project requirements. 
  • Ensure scaffolding is adequately designed, certified, and maintained to support safe access for all work phases.

Education:


• Bachelor's degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related field.


Experience:


• Minimum of 18 - 20 years of experience in Shipbuilding Field Production Management or a similar manufacturing environment.


Competencies:


• Shipbuilding Industry Knowledge: In-depth understanding of shipbuilding processes, materials, and technologies to effectively manage production operations and address industry-specific challenges.


• Production Management: Proficiency in managing all aspects of production operations, including production planning, resource allocation, workflow optimization, and process improvement.


• Quality Management: Expertise in establishing and maintaining quality control systems, conducting inspections and audits, and ensuring compliance with quality standards and customer requirements.


• Project Management: Ability to plan, organize, and execute projects within budget and time constraints, effectively allocate resources, and mitigate risks to ensure successful project completion.


• Communication and Collaboration: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and clients, fostering a collaborative and productive work environment.


• Financial Acumen: Strong understanding of financial management principles, including budgeting, cost control, and profitability analysis, to effectively manage financial aspects of production operations.


• Safety and Compliance: Knowledge of health and safety regulations and commitment to ensuring a safe working environment, compliance with applicable laws, and adherence to ethical standards in all aspects of production.


• Collaboration and Vendor Management: Strong collaborative skills to effectively work with subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers, ensuring timely delivery of materials, equipment, and services in accordance with project requirements and specifications.


• Regulatory Compliance: Knowledge of relevant maritime regulations, classification society rules, and industry standards to ensure compliance and obtain necessary certifications during the shipbuilding process.


• Leadership and Team Management: Exceptional leadership skills to motivate and inspire a diverse team, promote collaboration, and foster a positive work environment. Ability to effectively delegate tasks, provide guidance, and encourage professional development.
