Job description



The Facilities Manager is responsible for the overall management and maintenance of the physical infrastructure, utilities, and site services at the food manufacturing site. This includes ensuring the facility operates efficiently, safely, and in full compliance with food industry regulations and standards. The role involves oversight of building systems (e.g., HVAC, water, waste, lighting, energy), coordination of contractors.

Description

Facilities Operations & Maintenance:
Manage the upkeep and operation of all facility systems, including HVAC, refrigeration, compressed air, water supply, effluent treatment, and fire protection systems.Ensure building infrastructure (roofing, floors, drains, doors, lighting, etc.) is maintained to high standards to support hygiene and operational requirements.Oversee cleaning contracts, pest control, waste management, landscaping, and security services.


Compliance and Safety:
Ensure all facilities and utility systems comply with relevant legislation, health & safety standards, and food safety certifications (e.g., BRC, FSSC 22000).Manage and maintain accurate documentation for audits and inspections.Ensure that all site services and contractor activities are carried out in accordance with safe systems of work and risk assessments.


Energy and Environmental Management:
Monitor and manage utility usage (electricity, gas, water) to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impact.Support sustainability initiatives and lead environmental compliance (e.g., emissions, waste, water discharge).


People and Contractor Management:
Supervise in-house facilities personnel and external contractors.Coordinate service level agreements (SLAs) and performance of third-party providers.Schedule and supervise site works with minimal disruption to production operations.


Project Management and Capital Works:
Lead small-to-medium-scale facilities improvement projects, including office refurbishments, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades.Manage budgets, timelines, and contractor performance for assigned projects.


Budgeting and Reporting:
Develop and manage the facilities budget including maintenance, utilities, and service contracts.Provide regular reports on facility performance, utility usage, and capital project progress.


Profile
Minimum 5 years' experience in a facilities management role within a manufacturing or industrial setting, preferably food, FMCG, or regulated environments.

Strong understanding of building systems, utilities, HVAC, electrical infrastructure, and energy management.Familiarity with food industry standards (e.g., BRCGS, GMP, HACCP) and regulatory compliance (e.g., HSE, Environmental Health, legionella, LOLER, PUWER).Working knowledge of permit-to-work systems, risk assessments, and contractor control procedures.HNC/HND or Degree in Facilities Management, Building Services, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.Recognized Health & Safety qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH Certificate) is essential.Additional certifications in HVAC, electrical systems, or environmental management are advantageous.
