To perform blood collection, specimen registration and low to medium complexity testing in the department of laboratories and appropriate clinical areas of TVH. To receive, label and load samples onto analysers and preform pre analytical quality checks on submitted specimens.
Performs a variety of routine blood drawing procedures to include venepuncture techniques using standard equipment to include vacutainer tubes and sleeves, tourniquets, syringes, and butterfly needles.
Collects venous blood, capillary blood, using precautions that ensure the safety of the patient and laboratory staff.
Collects, registers, and transports laboratory diagnostic specimens and the management of all preanalytical aspects of these services.
Prepares, processes, labels and stores patient specimens and samples according to departmental procedures using standard techniques and equipment, for subsequent analysis by Clinical Laboratory staff.
Performs low complexity laboratory tests and the management of all aspects of these services.
Provides technical guidance to Phlebotomy students/trainees assigned to work area.
Maintains inventory of supplies and re-order as required.
Stocks supplies on carts and hand trays for easier transition to other locations.
Performs other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Practices within the ethical and legal parameters of the profession.
Utilizes standard procedures for the maintenance of positive patient identification and records appropriate collection information on proper requisitions.
Responds to questions/queries and resolves problems pertaining to test requisitions, specimen requirements, test additions, priority changes (from routine to STAT and vice versa) and patient results utilizing the Lab information system or analysing other data retrieval system.
Ensures quality control, quality assurance and safety.
Ensures that all specimen collections and processing are performed in compliance with JCI, CAP and ISO15189 guidelines.
Maintains licensing and registration with Qatari authorities as a Technologist/ Phlebotomist.
Adheres to TVH standards as they appear in the Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest policies.
Functional knowledge and clinical experience in Clinical laboratories.
Knowledge of and experience with Clinical laboratory safety and risks.
Knowledge of ISO 15189/CAP/JCI standards and guidelines.
Demonstrated strong analytical and decision-making skills.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
Minimum 4 years’ experience in clinical laboratories as a licensed Laboratory Technician or Technologist (required)
Minimum 3 years as a Laboratory Technician or Technologist in a CAP or ISO15189
Minimum 2 years in GCC (preferred)
