The Herd Manager is responsible for managing the overall health, productivity, and welfare of the dairy herd. This role oversees all aspects of herd management including breeding, calving, milking, animal health programs, and record-keeping. The Herd Manager works closely with veterinarians, nutritionists, and farm managers to ensure optimal herd performance, high milk yield, and adherence to Baladna’s animal welfare, biosecurity, and quality standards.
Oversee day-to-day herd operations, including feeding schedules, milking routines, breeding, and calving.
Monitor herd health and coordinate veterinary care, vaccinations, and disease prevention programs.
Implement breeding programs to optimize herd genetics, fertility rates, and calving intervals.
Supervise and train staff handling livestock to ensure animal welfare and safety standards are met.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date herd records, including milk yield, health treatments, breeding, and production performance.
Coordinate with nutritionists and feed teams to ensure balanced diets that maximize milk production and herd health.
Ensure compliance with animal welfare standards, biosecurity protocols, and farm regulations.
Analyze herd performance data and implement strategies to improve productivity and efficiency.
Manage herd inventory and support the replacement and culling strategy.
Prepare reports and provide management with insights on herd health, performance trends, and improvement opportunities.
Strong knowledge of dairy herd management, animal health, breeding, and milk production systems.
Familiarity with herd management software, data analysis, and performance monitoring tools.
Strong leadership and team management skills with experience in supervising livestock staff.
Problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on productivity and animal welfare.
ERP knowledge preferably SAP functional skills are a requirement to be successful in this role
Minimum 8 years working experience, 5 years in a relevant supervisory position, 2 years GCC experience is a plus
